High-Level Review Meeting on Air Pollution Control in NCR and Surrounding Areas

Jaipur, January 2026 : A high-level review meeting on air pollution control and management in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas was held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB). The meeting was chaired by Shri Rajesh Verma, Chairman of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Senior officials from CAQM and various departments of the Rajasthan government were present.

Chairman CAQM Shri Rajesh Verma said that a future-oriented action plan must be prepared for the NCR areas of Rajasthan, including Alwar, Bharatpur, and Bhiwadi. He emphasized plantation using the Miyawaki technique, increased use of public transport, and greater adoption of technology in cleanliness and sanitation efforts. While reviewing the annual city action plans of Alwar, Bharatpur, and Bhiwadi, he directed the installation of Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS) and Air Pollution Control Devices (APCDs) in industries to strengthen compliance with pollution norms and monitoring mechanisms.

The CAQM Chairman instructed that paving across the full width of roads and development of green belts be completed within the next two years to help control dust. He also called for strict action against vehicles parked on roads, large-scale plantation in the Aravalli region, and increased awareness and educational programmes involving relevant stakeholders.

Focus on EV Charging Infrastructure

Shri Verma stressed the need to focus on the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in view of future requirements. He said that a greater number of charging points would encourage people to adopt and purchase electric vehicles. He also directed officials to promote battery recycling for e-vehicles and to increase the use of CNG and electric vehicles.

Emphasis on Transport and Traffic Management

To reduce vehicular pollution, Shri Verma laid special emphasis on transport and traffic management. He reviewed progress on the identification, seizure, and scrapping of end-of-life (EOL) vehicles, discussed the early adoption of clean mobility by motor vehicle aggregators and e-commerce delivery services, and deliberated on the phased removal of diesel auto-rickshaws from NCR areas by December 31, 2026. Discussions were also held on integrated traffic management systems, installation of ANPR cameras, identification of traffic congestion points, and expansion of parking facilities.

Review of Solid Waste and C&D Waste Management

The meeting also reviewed the management of solid waste, legacy waste, dump sites, and daily waste disposal, along with the collection, transportation, processing, and use of recycled products from construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Shri Verma directed that waste generated from construction activities be reused in other construction projects.

Formation of State-Level Task Force

During the meeting, Shri Verma directed the formation of a special state-level task force to combat pollution. He emphasized strict action against violators of pollution norms and called for surprise inspections of industries, DG sets, and C&D sites.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Climate Change Department, Shri Anand Kumar; Chairman, RSPCB, Shri Alok Gupta; CAQM Member Secretary (Technical) Dr. Virendra Sharma; CAQM Member Secretary Shri Tarun Kumar Pithode; senior officials from the departments of Local Self-Government, Industries, Agriculture, Transport, Forest and Environment, RIICO; the Chief Executive Officer of the Bhiwadi Integrated Development Authority; Municipal Commissioners of Alwar, Bharatpur, and Bhiwadi; and other senior officials of CAQM and RSPCB.
