Kanota, Chandlai and Nevta Dams in Jaipur to Soon Be Freed from Polluted Water

Jaipur, January 2026 : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, effective and forward-looking initiatives are being undertaken in the fields of environmental protection and water resource conservation. The Water Resources Department is ensuring the timely and efficient implementation of important water projects, accelerating improvements in water quality, environmental balance, and public welfare across the state.

A significant initiative has now been launched to purify and make pollution-free the water of three major dams in Jaipur—Kanota, Chandlai, and Nevta. For this purpose, experts (authorized agencies) approved by the Government of India are conducting detailed scientific studies at all three dams. Based on these studies, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared and submitted to the state government shortly. The study focuses on improving water quality, identifying sources of pollution, GIS-based mapping, biodiversity conservation, use of modern water treatment technologies, and exploring possibilities for local livelihood generation and eco-tourism.

Water Resources Minister Shri Suresh Singh Rawat stated that due to Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma’s commitment and foresight towards environmental protection, Rajasthan is emerging as a strong and exemplary model in the field of water and environmental conservation. The government’s innovative efforts are not only addressing present needs but are also paving the way for a safe, clean, and sustainable future for coming generations.

Long-Term Roadmap to Be Included in the Report

The agency’s report will detail the causes of water pollution in the dams, including the sources, volume, and nature of the polluted water inflow. It will also outline effective preventive measures, alternatives for the discharge of polluted water, and a long-term development roadmap for the dams. The report will include plans for irrigation infrastructure, required machinery, and water management systems to ensure water reaches agricultural fields efficiently. Additionally, tourism development prospects at the dams will be explored, including proposals such as boating facilities, development of green spaces, and promotion of day and night tourism.

Momentum Gained Under the Campaign

Notably, under the ‘Vande Ganga’ public water conservation campaign, Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma inaugurated desilting and cleaning works in the catchment area of Ramgarh Dam. Active participation of local citizens was witnessed, serving as a strong example of people-centric development. Subsequently, efforts across the state have focused on conserving water sources, increasing water storage capacity, and restoring ecological balance.
