Atal Gyan Kendras to Be Equipped with Modern Study Facilities
Jaipur, February 2026 : Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas on Monday chaired a review meeting of the Atal Gyan Kendra Scheme at the Secretariat and issued directions for its effective implementation. He said that Atal Gyan Kendras being established at the gram panchayat level should be developed as strong hubs for quality education, digital literacy, and preparation for competitive examinations for rural youth. He directed that prescribed infrastructure, digital facilities, and study resources be made available at all centres within stipulated timelines, with regular monitoring of works ensured.
The Chief Secretary instructed that, in the first phase of the scheme, continuous review of the progress of ongoing and completed works at targeted gram panchayat headquarters be undertaken, and pending works be completed on priority. He emphasized that the centres should be operated in a manner that enables students from rural and remote areas to benefit from modern study facilities.
During the meeting, Dr. Joga Ram, Secretary and Commissioner, Panchayati Raj Department, informed that each centre is being equipped with an e-library, magazines and journals on current affairs, books for competitive examinations, material promoting logical and critical thinking, literature related to the freedom movement, multilingual newspapers, and e-Mitra facilities. He stated that Atal Gyan Kendras are being established in a phased manner at each gram panchayat headquarters. In the first phase, 2,056 gram panchayat headquarters with a population of more than 3,000 have been included.
He further informed that financial approval has been issued for 1,687 Atal Gyan Kendras in the first phase, of which work is in progress at 508 centres and construction has been completed at 243 centres.
Each Atal Gyan Kendra will have a building measuring approximately 36×20 feet, a minimum of four digital workstations, internet connectivity, furniture, and seating facilities for at least 20 students. The centres are also being developed as activity centres for training and other activities. He added that the deployment of Atal Preraks is proposed for the operation of the centres, whose key responsibilities will include promoting digital literacy among the rural population, encouraging the use of e-governance services, and facilitating access to benefits of various government schemes.
It is noteworthy that the Atal Gyan Kendra Scheme was announced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on Good Governance Day, December 25, 2024, and has also been included in the 2025–26 Budget. Officials of the Panchayati Raj Department were present at the meeting.
