India’s First Musical Road Inaugurated in the Presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road Gets a New Identity
Mumbai, Feb 2026 : Mumbai’s ambitious infrastructure project, the Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, has now acquired a unique new identity. Playing a vital role in easing the city’s traffic, this route will now be known as India’s very first musical road. The road was inaugurated today near Amarsons Garden in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
As the Chief Minister’s vehicle passed over the specially designed musical strips, the tune of the popular song “Jai Ho” from the film Slumdog Millionaire could be heard. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, former MP Rahul Shewale, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai Avinash Dhakane, and Hungary’s Consul General Frank Jari were present in the vehicle along with the Chief Minister.
Interacting with media representatives, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that commuters travelling on the right-side carriageway of the Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road will experience this musical road. Calling it an innovative concept, he said that with the help of advanced Hungarian technology, motorists will be able to hear the globally popular tune of “Jai Ho.” In the first phase, special musical ribs have been installed along a 500-metre stretch of the road.
The sound is produced due to the specific spacing of these strips and the friction created when vehicle tyres pass over them at a speed of 60 to 70 km per hour. These musical notes are audible to passengers inside the vehicle. The Chief Minister added that this musical road, blending world-class technology with Indian culture and music, is expected to become a subject of curiosity and attraction across the country.
