Democracy Triumphs as Symbols of Maoist Terror Removed in Gadchiroli
Gadchiroli, February 2026 : A major success has been achieved in the fight against Maoism in Gadchiroli district with security forces successfully demolishing the last remaining 44 memorials that symbolised Maoist terror in the region. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated the Gadchiroli police force for the operation, stating that this action represents not merely the removal of physical structures but a decisive democratic victory over the fear that had gripped people’s minds for decades.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said these memorials—erected by Maoists in remote and extremely inaccessible areas—were meant to spread fear among local residents and assert their presence. However, due to the state government’s consistent and firm anti-Maoist policy, the situation in Gadchiroli has witnessed a significant transformation. Sustained security operations, an effective surrender policy, infrastructure development projects, and growing public trust have together helped create a more positive and secure environment in the district.
The coordinated operation involved around 800 personnel from the Gadchiroli Police, C-60 commandos, the Central Reserve Police Force, and other special units. After thorough checks by Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), the 44 memorials were dismantled across forested areas. The operation was successfully carried out in highly sensitive regions of Etapalli, Hedri, Bhamragad, Jimalgatta, Dhanora, and Pendhri sub-divisions.
The Chief Minister noted that places which once stood as symbols of terror are now witnessing growing trust in the administration, a stronger sense of security, and renewed hope for development. This operation reflects the changing reality of Gadchiroli and marks a crucial phase in the district’s transition—from fear to trust, and from violence to development—signifying a decisive step toward lasting peace and progress.
