Sports Minister Reviews Proposal for Artificial Football Turf at Joint YMA Field, Vaivakawn

Aizawl, February 2026: Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister for Sports & Youth Services and MLA of Aizawl West II constituency, visited the Aizawl West Joint YMA Field at Vaivakawn, where an artificial football turf worth ₹10 crore is proposed to be laid using funds from SASCI. During the visit, he held discussions with government officials and community leaders on the roadmap for implementing the project.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said that the Joint YMA of Aizawl West had earlier requested the construction of a proper playing surface at the ground. However, due to the non-availability of funds at that time, the work could not be taken up. He expressed happiness that the government has now sanctioned the required funds, making it possible to proceed with the project.

The Sports Minister further stated that his visit was aimed not only at reviewing the plan for laying the artificial turf but also at discussing, in consultation with community leaders and the Joint YMA, what additional facilities could be included depending on the availability of funds, and how the overall development of the ground should be planned.

He also mentioned that discussions have already been held with YMA leaders to ensure that the facility can be effectively used to promote sports in Mizoram and that sports associations are also able to benefit from the upgraded infrastructure.

Among the key issues discussed during the planning meeting were measures to prevent water from entering the field, the need for a proper drainage system, site-specific planning and execution of works, construction of a well-designed gallery, and installation of adequate lighting to enable night-time training. It was agreed that the government, community leaders, and the Joint YMA should continue to work together in close coordination to take the project forward.

Those present during the visit included Pu Henry C. Lalrawnkima, Secretary of the Mizoram State Sports Council, officials of the MSSC, members of the Vaivakawn Local Council, Joint YMA leaders, and other community representatives.
