Jaipur International Airport Achieves Water-Positive Status, Sets Sustainability Benchmark

New Delhi, April 2026 : Adani Group-backed Jaipur International Airport has achieved a significant environmental milestone by becoming water-positive, the first airport in Rajasthan and among a select few in India to earn this distinction, officials said.

The certification was awarded by global consulting firm Bureau Veritas following a comprehensive evaluation of the airport’s water conservation systems and sustainability practices. Being water-positive means the airport replenishes and recycles more water than it consumes.

Between April 2025 and March 2026, the airport used 103,387 kilolitres of water, while successfully replenishing and recycling 137,085 kilolitres—demonstrating a strong commitment to resource efficiency in a region that faces water scarcity.

To achieve this, the airport has implemented a range of innovative water management measures. Key initiatives include the installation of 18 deep aquifer recharge pits designed to enhance rainwater harvesting and improve groundwater levels. Additionally, the airport has adopted a strategy focused on 100 per cent recycling and reuse of treated water, reducing dependence on freshwater sources.

A spokesperson for the airport highlighted that the achievement is the result of sustained efforts built on three core pillars: complete recycling and reuse of treated water, minimising freshwater consumption, and strengthening rainwater harvesting infrastructure.

As the busiest airport in Rajasthan, Jaipur International Airport handles over six million passengers annually and manages nearly 120 flight movements each day. Spread across 776 acres, it operates with a ‘digital-first’ approach aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability.

The airport has also earned multiple recognitions for its environmental initiatives. It received the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) certification from the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development and was awarded Level 3 accreditation by Airports Council International in May 2025.

Operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, the airport’s achievement underscores a growing emphasis on sustainable infrastructure in India’s aviation sector.
