Arvind Kejriwal attends Koli community event in Gujarat, says Aam Aadmi Party stands with society in joy and sorrow

Gujarat, February 2026 : A scene was witnessed in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, that went beyond politics and worked to unite society. Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, attended a mass wedding ceremony of 151 couples. There was an atmosphere of happiness all around. When a wedding takes place in one home, the entire family feels festive; here, the bridal palanquins of 151 daughters were lifted together. The entire ground was filled with joy.

The event was organised by the Shri Veer Mandhata Koli Samaj Organisation, which has been arranging marriages for needy and orphaned daughters for the past 12 years. So far, marriages of more than 2,000 daughters have been solemnised. A few years ago, weddings of 501 couples were conducted together. This is not just an event, but a campaign to save society from debt and showy extravagance. The Koli community has a large presence in Gujarat. Associated with agriculture, fishing and hard labour, this community has remained economically weak for years. Due to high expenses in weddings, many families fall into debt—land has to be sold and jewellery mortgaged. In such circumstances, mass wedding ceremonies become a great relief for poor families. Here, daughters are married with dignity, without unnecessary expenditure.

Arvind Kejriwal did not speak about politics from the stage. He spoke only about the happiness of daughters, the responsibilities of families, and appealed to society to eliminate showmanship and social evils. He said that if children of society are given good education and the right opportunities, they can bring glory to the country. Hard-working and talented children should get a chance to move ahead.

Daughters from every caste and every religion participated in this programme. It was not limited to one community, but was an event that brought the entire society together. The presence of the Aam Aadmi Party showed that the party does not engage only in electoral politics, but stands with society in both happiness and hardship.

In Gujarat, the Aam Aadmi Party is gradually strengthening its position. When leaders participate in social programmes without politics, trust is built in people’s hearts. That trust becomes strength for the future. This event conveyed a message of social change and also offered a glimpse of sensitive leadership.
