US Confirms Major Combat Operations in Iran Amid Escalating Tensions

Washington, Feb 2026 : President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday that the United States had launched “major combat operations in Iran,” marking a dramatic escalation in hostilities and bringing war to Iran for the second time in eight months. The coordinated military strikes with Israel have intensified fears of a wider regional conflict in a strategically and economically sensitive part of the world.

In an eight-minute video posted on his Truth Social account, Trump outlined the objectives of the operations, emphasizing the protection of American lives. “Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people,” he said, accusing Tehran of nearly five decades of hostility towards the US.

“For 47 years, the Iranian regime has chanted, Death to America, and waged an unending campaign of bloodshed and mass murder, targeting the United States, our troops, and the innocent people in many, many countries,” Trump said. He recounted Iran’s alleged malign activities and warned that the regime’s actions directly endanger the US, its troops abroad, and its global allies.

While Trump confirmed the military operations, he did not explicitly mention the joint nature of the strikes with Israel, though officials later acknowledged coordination between the two countries. Describing Iran as a “very wicked radical dictatorship,” he said American forces were targeting Tehran’s key military capabilities.

“We are destroying their missiles, we are razing their missile industry to the ground. It will be totally, again, obliterating. We are annihilating their navy, and we are making sure their terrorist proxies can no longer threaten the region or the world and attack our forces,” Trump said. He also reaffirmed the US position on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, declaring, “We will ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon. It’s a very simple lesson.”

Trump acknowledged the risks to US personnel, noting, “My administration has taken every possible step to minimise the risk to US personnel in the region. Even so…the Iranian regime seeks to kill. The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties — that often happens in war. But we’re doing this, not for now. We’re doing this for the future, and it is a noble mission.”

In parallel, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed that Israel had conducted strikes on multiple Iranian sites and declared an immediate state of emergency across the country amid heightened security threats. The action underscores the severity of the regional escalation.

The military operations follow a month-long US troop buildup in the Middle East, prompted by Trump’s pledge in early January to support Iranian protesters challenging the regime. In the weeks preceding the strikes, Trump repeatedly warned that Iran would face military consequences if it refused to abandon its nuclear program.

The unfolding situation has raised concerns among global observers over the potential for a wider conflict, with implications for regional stability, energy markets, and international security. Analysts warn that both Tehran and Washington are now engaged in a high-stakes confrontation, with the possibility of further escalation in the coming days.

This marks one of the most significant US military actions in the region in recent months, reflecting the administration’s uncompromising stance on Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities and highlighting the fragile balance between diplomacy and armed conflict in the Middle East.
