Wildlife Conservation and Augmentation are Our Priority: CM Dr. Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the conservation and augmentation of gharials and turtles are being actively undertaken in the state. The Government of Madhya Pradesh is working with firm resolve to protect endangered species. He also said that Madhya Pradesh is witnessing continuous progress in the tourism sector. The Cheetah Project, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is steadily progressing toward success, increasing the number of cheetahs in the state to 48.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav made these remarks after releasing gharials and turtles into the Kuno River at Kuno National Park. He stated that the number of tourists visiting Madhya Pradesh has also increased this year. The Chief Minister released 53 gharials and 25 turtles into the Kuno River. Of the 53 gharials (scientific name: Gavialis gangeticus), 28 are males and 25 are females. The 25 turtles belong to the Three-Striped Roof Turtle species (scientific name: Batagur dhongoka).

On the occasion, Senior MLA and State BJP President Shri Hemant Khandelwal, former Forest Minister Shri Ramniwas Rawat, Chairman of the Sahariya Development Authority Shri Tursanpal Bariya, Vice Chairman Shri Sitaram Adivasi, District Panchayat President Smt. Guddi Bai Adivasi, MLA Shri Brijraj Singh Chauhan, Principal Secretary (Forest) Shri Sandeep Yadav, Commissioner, Shri Suresh Kumar, DIG Shri Sachin Atulkar, Collector Shri Arpit Verma, Director of National Chambal Sanctuary, DFO Shri Harish Baghel, Kuno DFO Shri R. Thirukural and other public representatives were present.

During the event, a memento was presented on behalf of the National Chambal Sanctuary, Deori (Morena).
