Iranian Attack On The Sultanate Of Oman Is A Serious Violation Of The Sultanate’s Sovereignty.
Riyadh; March 2026: His Excellency Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, expressed his strong condemnation and denunciation of the brutal Iranian attacks that targeted the commercial port of Duqm in the sisterly Sultanate of Oman, and an oil tanker off its coast, stressing that these attacks represent a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Sultanate of Oman, and a dangerous escalation that would undermine the security and stability of the region and threaten the safety of maritime navigation and global energy supplies.
His Excellency explained that the treacherous military operations launched by Iran against the GCC countries reflect its intentions towards the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the region in general, especially since the GCC countries have previously conveyed to the Iranian regime, in several meetings and occasions, assurances that they will not allow their lands or airspace to be used to carry out any military operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran. His Excellency stressed that Iran’s targeting of civilian facilities is a major violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the rules of good neighbourliness.
His Excellency the Secretary-General stressed the GCC’s full solidarity and unwavering support for the Sultanate of Oman in all measures it takes to protect its sovereignty and preserve its security and stability, reiterating the GCC’s rejection of all forms of aggression targeting the security of its member state.
Meanwhile, after the completion of the 50th Extraordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Cooperation Council regarding the Iranian aggression against the GCC countries, a statement was issued by Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, alongwith His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; His Excellency Mr. Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman; His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar; His Excellency Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait; His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Abdullah Al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf:
This is to discuss the Iranian missile and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait, which began on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
The Ministerial Council studied the great damage resulting from the treacherous Iranian attacks on these countries, targeting civilian facilities, service sites, and residential areas, causing significant material damage, threatening the security, safety, and lives of citizens and residents, and terrorizing peaceful citizens and residents. It also discussed the necessary procedures and steps to coordinate efforts aimed at restoring security and stability and achieving peace in the region.
The Ministerial Council expressed its rejection and condemnation in the strongest terms of these heinous Iranian attacks that targeted the GCC countries, in addition to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in a serious violation of the sovereignty of these countries, and of the principles of good neighbourliness, and a clear violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, whatever the pretexts and justifications, in addition to the fact that targeting civilians and civilian objects constitutes a grave breach of the rules of international humanitarian law.
The Council also expressed full solidarity among the GCC states and their united stand against these attacks, stressing that the security of its member states is indivisible, and that any attack on any member state is a direct attack on all GCC states, in accordance with the GCC Charter and the Joint Defense Agreement, affirming that the GCC states retain their legal right to respond, in accordance with Article (51) of the Charter of the United Nations, which guarantees the right of self-defence for states individually and collectively in the event of aggression, and to take all measures to preserve their sovereignty, security and stability.
The Council commended the efficiency and readiness of the armed forces and air defense systems in the member states that countered the missile and drone attacks and dealt with them with high professionalism, and contributed to neutralizing the threat, reducing its effects, and protecting lives, facilities, and vital assets.
The Ministerial Council affirmed that, in light of this unjustified Iranian aggression against the GCC countries, it will take all necessary measures to defend its security and stability and protect its territories, citizens and residents, including the option of responding to the aggression.
Despite the numerous diplomatic efforts made by the GCC countries to avoid escalation, and despite their assurances that their territories would not be used to launch any attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran, the latter continued to carry out military operations against the GCC countries, targeting many civilian and residential facilities.
The Ministerial Council stressed the need for an immediate halt to these attacks in order to restore security, peace and stability in the region, emphasizing the importance of maintaining air and maritime security and waterways in the region, the safety of supply chains and ensuring the stability of global energy markets, stressing that the stability of the Arabian Gulf region is not only a regional issue but is a fundamental pillar for the stability of the global economy and maritime navigation.
The Ministerial Council called on the international community to condemn and strongly denounce these attacks, and called on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities by taking an immediate and firm stance to prevent these violations that endanger the lives of the population and to prevent their recurrence, given their serious repercussions on regional and international peace.
The Ministerial Council expressed the thanks and appreciation of the member states to the sisterly and friendly countries that condemned and denounced the Iranian attacks and expressed their solidarity and support for the Council countries and their support for the measures taken by the Council countries to protect their sovereignty, security and stability.
The Council noted that the GCC countries have always advocated for dialogue, negotiations, and resolving all issues with the Islamic Republic of Iran, praising the role of the Sultanate of Oman in this regard.
The Council stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in relations between countries, and that this path is the only way to overcome the current crisis and preserve the security of the region and the safety of its peoples, stressing that any escalation would undermine regional security and drag the region into dangerous paths that would have disastrous repercussions on international peace and security.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council expressed its sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the families of the victims, and its heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. Issued on Sunday, 12 Ramadan 1447 AH, corresponding to March 1, 2026 AD.
