Suryakumar Yadav Credits Trust and Team Culture for India’s T20 World Cup Triumph

Ahmedabad, March 2026 — India captain Suryakumar Yadav highlighted the importance of trust, support, and strong team culture in India’s successful campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, saying the team’s unity during difficult moments played a crucial role in their title-winning run.

India clinched the championship after defeating the New Zealand national cricket team in the final at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, sparking celebrations across the country. Reflecting on the victory, Suryakumar said the team’s success was built on a culture of belief, communication, and unwavering support for each other over the past two years.

According to the Indian skipper, the team management and players made a conscious effort to stand by teammates when they went through lean patches. He explained that maintaining personal connections within the squad often makes the difference in high-pressure situations.

“When someone is not doing well, we try to spend time with him, maybe take him out for dinner and talk to him,” Suryakumar said after the match. “Those are the players who, at the right moment, can do something special for the team. You saw that today with Abhishek Sharma, and also with Sanju Samson in the last three matches.”

The captain noted that this sense of backing and encouragement has been an essential part of the team’s philosophy during the last two years. He said players responded positively because they clearly understood their roles and responsibilities in the side.

“Each player knew what the team expected from them. Everyone played their role, and that’s why I am extremely happy,” he said. “The way they responded over the past two years and the way they embraced the brand of cricket we wanted to play has been outstanding.”

Suryakumar also pointed out that building friendships and trust off the field is just as important as performance during matches. Spending time together outside cricket, he said, helps players build stronger relationships, which ultimately benefits the team during crucial moments.

“When you connect with someone personally, the understanding on the field becomes stronger. Those small efforts away from the game help create a bond that can turn into match-winning performances when the pressure is high,” he explained.

Another key element of the team’s environment, according to Suryakumar, is open communication in the dressing room. He stressed that every player should feel comfortable sharing ideas and opinions, regardless of their experience level.

“Freedom of speech in the dressing room is very important for me,” he said. “I believe everyone should be able to express themselves. I’m sure Gautam Gambhir would agree with that as well. If you don’t listen to everyone, you cannot bring the whole team together and win trophies.”

Suryakumar also took the opportunity to thank cricket fans across India and around the world for their constant support throughout the tournament. He acknowledged that the team felt the expectations and prayers of millions of supporters during their journey to the title.

“I just want to thank everyone for keeping the players and support staff in their prayers,” he said. “Everyone wanted us to win this World Cup, and it means a lot.”

He added that winning the tournament on home soil made the victory even more special. “No team has achieved this before in front of their home crowd. I’m sure it will be a very special moment for Indians not only in India but all over the world.”

With India lifting the trophy amid roaring cheers at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Suryakumar said the triumph was a testament to teamwork, belief, and the collective spirit that has defined the squad’s journey.
