Israel Says 1,900 Iranian Soldiers Killed in Ongoing Conflict as Strikes Continue

Jerusalem, March 2026 : The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said about 1,900 Iranian soldiers and commanders have been killed since the start of the conflict with Iran, as Israeli forces continued airstrikes across multiple Iranian cities. Military spokesperson Effie Defrin said Israel has not ruled out targeting Iran’s newly announced supreme leader if he is considered a threat.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Defrin also confirmed that another person had been killed earlier in the day following an Iranian missile strike inside Israel. The latest casualty raises the total number of civilians killed in Iranian attacks on Israel to 12, in addition to two Israeli soldiers who died during clashes with Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon.

According to figures released by the Israeli Ministry of Health, a total of 2,238 people have been evacuated to hospitals across Israel since the start of joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran. Of these, 91 individuals remain hospitalised, while the rest have been discharged after receiving treatment.

Defrin said the Israeli Air Force continued its operations on Monday, carrying out strikes in Tehran, Isfahan, and several locations in southern Iran.

Since the beginning of the US-Israeli offensive on February 28, Israeli warplanes have targeted six military airports across Iran. The operations also focused on aircraft belonging to the Quds Force, which Israel claims are used to transport weapons and funds to Iranian allies in the region. According to Defrin, 16 cargo aircraft involved in such operations have been destroyed.

Israeli airstrikes have also expanded beyond Iran. In Beirut, Israeli forces carried out attacks on infrastructure allegedly used by Hezbollah. Defrin said 35 high-rise buildings believed to house Hezbollah facilities were targeted, while more than 700 Hezbollah-linked sites across Lebanon have been struck since the conflict intensified.

The Israeli military spokesperson emphasized that operations would continue for as long as necessary to neutralize perceived threats.

“Our attacks will continue as long as needed,” Defrin said.

When asked whether Israel might attempt to eliminate Mojtaba Khamenei, whose appointment was announced recently, Defrin did not rule out the possibility. “Anyone who poses a threat will be struck,” he said.

The developments come after Donald Trump stated on March 9 that the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran could end soon. Speaking at a press conference in Florida, Trump said the operation might not conclude immediately but suggested it would end “very soon.”

However, his remarks appeared to send mixed signals as he also supported comments by Pete Hegseth, who had earlier warned that the confrontation with Iran could intensify and that the battle may only be at its early stages.
