Iran’s New Supreme Leader In His First Message Has Reiterated The Closure Of Hormuz Strait.

Tehran; March 2026: The first message from Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei since he became Iran’s new supreme leader on Sunday is being read out on Iranian state TV. Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public in the days since the announcement of his appointment to the country’s highest office. A source familiar with the situation told media outlets that the supreme leader had suffered a fractured foot and other minor injuries on the first day of the US and Israel’s bombardment campaign.

Iran’s ambassador to Cyprus, Alireza Salarian, had briefed the media reporters on 11th March 2026 (Wednesday) that Khamenei was injured in the same airstrike that killed his father, the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with 05 other members of the family.

A new image released by the official Telegram channel of Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has revealed his handwriting, Iranian state media reports. The image shows a list of the names of Iran’s supreme leaders: Mojtaba Khamenei, as well as his father Ali Khamenei and his predecessor and the first man to hold that role, Ruhollah Khomeini.

Underneath the list is the short message: “In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful”.

The phrase denotes new beginnings: Among others, it is used at the beginning of most chapters of the Quran.

Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued his first message, calling for unity among the Iranian people and warning that the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route, will remain closed as a “tool of pressure”. The message, read on Iran’s state television by an anchor, also contained a warning that all US bases in the region need to be shut down or they “will be attacked”.

In the message, Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Tehran believes in “friendship” with its neighbours, stressing that his country is targeting only US bases in these countries. In the meanwhile, as Khamenei said – only US bases are being targeted, there have been several attacks against civilian objects and oil-related targets in the region.

The present supreme leader in his comments have said:

Shipping warning: Khamenei said the Strait of Hormuz, one of the global economy’s key arteries, will remain closed as a “tool of pressure”.

Gulf relations: Khamenei said in the message that Tehran believes in “friendship” with its neighbors, but stressed that his country would continue to target US bases in those countries if they are not shut down. “We only targeted these military bases, and we will continue, we will have to continue and do so”, Khamenei said.

Compensation demand: The supreme leader said the US and Israel must pay “compensation” for their actions, referring only to the two countries as “the enemy.”

Praise for proxies: Khamenei also thanked Iran’s allies and proxies in the region, which he called the “Resistance Front”. Specifically mentioning Houthi rebels in Yemen, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the pro-Iranian Iraqi resistance movement, Khamenei said Iran considers them its “best friends.” He urged the groups to continue fighting.

Eulogy to father: A portion of Khamenei’s message was used to honor his father and predecessor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “I had the honor of seeing his body after his martyrdom. What I saw was a mountain of strength,” he said.

School strike: Khamenei directly referenced the strike at Shajareh Tayyiba school in Minab, which state media said killed at least 168 children and 14 teachers. “We will be especially sensitive regarding the blood of our children”, he said while promising revenge.
