Iran Says U.S. Rejected ‘No Nuclear Weapons’ Proposal During Geneva Talks

March 2026 : Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday claimed that U.S. negotiators rejected a proposal from Tehran that guaranteed the country would not develop nuclear weapons, arguing that the American side failed to understand the technical details of the offer.

Araghchi made the remarks while referring to the third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, which took place on February 26 in Geneva. The talks were mediated by Oman and were part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between the two long-standing adversaries.

In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi said factual clarity was important in discussions surrounding the negotiations.

“Facts matter. Case one: Iran’s proposal guaranteeing ‘no nuclear weapons’ was rejected because the American side could not understand its technical details,” he wrote.

Energy Price Argument Rejected

Araghchi also dismissed claims that the United States might benefit economically from rising global energy prices triggered by tensions with Iran.

According to the Iranian foreign minister, increases in oil prices and tariffs would not benefit ordinary Americans but would instead enrich corporations while placing additional financial strain on households.

“Case two: The United States will not make money from rising oil prices and tariffs. These increases enrich corporations and break the backs of ordinary families,” he said in his statement.

Delegations Led by Senior Officials

The Iranian delegation at the Geneva negotiations was led by Araghchi himself. The American side was represented by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and entrepreneur and former White House adviser Jared Kushner.

Reports indicated that the third round of discussions lasted several hours and took place in what officials described as an “intense and serious” atmosphere. The talks focused on easing tensions related to Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions, and the broader security situation in West Asia.

Despite the extended discussions, there was no immediate indication that the negotiations had produced any major breakthrough.

Rising Tensions Between Washington and Tehran

Relations between Iran and the United States have become increasingly strained amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and escalating rhetoric between senior officials from both countries.

Iranian leaders have issued several warnings to Washington and to U.S. President Donald Trump in recent days.

Among those speaking out was Ali Larijani, who rejected the notion that the United States could secure a quick military victory over Iran.

In a strongly worded message on social media, Larijani said wars cannot be won through political statements or social media posts.

“Trump says he is looking for a quick victory. Starting a war may be easy, but it cannot be won with a few tweets,” he wrote while using the hashtag “#TrumpMustPay.”

Larijani warned that Iran would not back down and would make Washington regret what he described as a serious miscalculation.

Warning Over Iran’s Power Infrastructure

In another post, Larijani responded to comments attributed to Trump suggesting that the United States could potentially destroy Iran’s electricity infrastructure within a short period of time.

Trump reportedly claimed that the U.S. military could eliminate Iran’s electricity generation capacity within an hour if it chose to do so.

Reacting to the statement, Larijani warned that such a move could trigger serious regional consequences.

“Trump said we could completely destroy Iran’s electricity supply within an hour, but we have not done so,” Larijani said, referring to the American statement.

He added that if such an attack were carried out, it could plunge large parts of the region into darkness and create instability across the Middle East.

Larijani further suggested that such chaos could endanger U.S. troops stationed across the region, warning that they could become vulnerable targets during a wider conflict.

Trump Praises U.S. Military Strength

Earlier, President Donald Trump had commented on the evolving situation with Iran, saying developments were moving “very quickly.”

“Iran is moving very fast. Everything is going very well,” Trump said, while praising the strength and capabilities of the U.S. armed forces.

“Our military is unmatched. There has never been a military like this before. Nobody has ever seen anything like it,” he added.

Uncertain Outlook for Diplomacy

The sharp exchange of statements highlights the fragile state of diplomatic relations between Washington and Tehran despite ongoing negotiations.

Analysts say that while talks mediated by Oman represent an important channel of communication, deep mistrust remains between the two countries on issues ranging from nuclear development to regional security.

With tensions continuing to rise in West Asia and both sides maintaining firm positions, the outcome of future negotiations remains uncertain, raising concerns that diplomatic efforts may struggle to prevent further escalation.
