School Education Minister Attends Chapchar Kut 2026 Celebration in Kolkata
Kolkata, March 2026: The Calcutta Mizo Welfare Association (CMWA) celebrated Chapchar Kut 2026 on March 14 at Mizoram House, Salt Lake, Kolkata. Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister of the School Education Department, attended the event as the chief guest and Kut Pa (festival patron).
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Vanlalthlana praised the Mizo community in Kolkata for coming together to celebrate Chapchar Kut. He said Kolkata has long served as an important gateway for Mizoram, and the Mizo community living in the city has consistently worked to showcase the rich values and traditions of Mizo culture. He also acknowledged their humanitarian efforts, noting that members of the community regularly extend help to those facing illness, bereavement, and other difficulties.
Referring to the theme of Chapchar Kut this year, the Minister said that the Calcutta Mizo Welfare Association has continued to work with unity and cooperation for the welfare of the Mizo community. He urged the members to keep alive the spirit of service and continue contributing positively to society.
Dr. Vanlalthlana further stated that the essence of Chapchar Kut lies in encouraging people and uplifting those who may be struggling. He called upon the community to continue promoting the noble values of Mizo society and to stand by those who face hardships. He also emphasized that Mizos living outside their home state should confidently display their cultural identity and traditions. According to him, the uniqueness of Mizo culture should be proudly shared and presented to people from other communities.
The Chapchar Kut celebration organized by the Calcutta Mizo Welfare Association was presided over by its President Pu C. Lalmuanzuala, while the Joint Resident Commissioner of Mizoram House in Kolkata, Pu Zoremthara Ralte, attended as the guest of honour. The programme featured several cultural and entertainment activities. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by CMWA General Secretary Dr. Lalrinpuia, followed by a community feast.
During the visit, Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana was accompanied by Pu C. Lalthanzira, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, and Dr. Albert Vanlalruata, Private Secretary to the Minister.
