Israel Accuses Iran of Targeting Civilians, Calls Recent Missile Strike a War Crime
March 2026 : Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has accused Iran of deliberately targeting civilians, even during the holy month of Ramadan, describing the actions as a clear violation of international law and potentially a war crime.
Referring to a recent Iranian missile strike, Sa’ar said the attack injured dozens of residents and posed a direct threat to civilian lives. According to him, the incident occurred in the Israeli town of Jarjir, where 58 residents were reportedly wounded, most of them civilians.
In a post on the social media platform X, the Israeli minister strongly criticized what he described as Iran’s actions. “The Iranian terrorist regime is deliberately targeting civilians, whether they are Jews or Muslims, even during the holy month of Ramadan. All Israeli casualties so far have been civilians. This clearly constitutes a war crime,” Sa’ar wrote.
He further alleged that Iran had been launching missiles at civilian populations without regard for religious identity or sacred times. According to Sa’ar, such attacks demonstrate a disregard for human life and international humanitarian norms.
The foreign minister also claimed that Iranian missiles had been directed toward areas near Jerusalem’s religious sites, raising concerns about the safety of worshippers and the preservation of sacred spaces. In contrast, he said, Israel was committed to ensuring the safety of people visiting holy places.
Sa’ar emphasized that Israeli authorities were taking strict security measures to protect key religious sites in Jerusalem. These measures, he said, were intended to safeguard worshippers and prevent potential threats during the ongoing tensions.
He noted that security precautions apply to several major religious landmarks, including the Western Wall, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. According to Sa’ar, the Israeli government’s priority is to ensure the safety of people of all faiths who visit these sacred locations.
The minister’s remarks came at a time of heightened tensions in the region. Israeli authorities have also recently claimed that a terror attack at a synagogue in the U.S. state of Michigan may have links to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
The Israel Defense Forces stated that intelligence information suggested a possible connection between the attacker and Hezbollah. According to the military, the brother of the suspected attacker, identified as Ibrahim Muhammad Ghazali, is believed to have links with the group.
While investigations into the Michigan incident are ongoing, Israeli officials say the development underscores broader concerns about regional and international security threats linked to militant organizations supported by Iran.
Sa’ar’s comments highlight Israel’s growing alarm over recent attacks and the broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Israeli leaders continue to call for international attention to what they describe as Iran’s role in escalating violence, while emphasizing their commitment to protecting civilians and religious sites during the current conflict.
