Trump Defends US Military Action Against Iran, Says Strikes Curbed Nuclear Threat

Washington, March 2026 : US President Donald Trump has defended recent American military action against Iran, asserting that the operation was necessary to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons and had significantly weakened its military capabilities.

Speaking at the White House during Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations, Trump said the United States acted decisively after concluding that Iran was nearing the development of nuclear weapons. “They can’t have a nuclear weapon, and they now understand that very strongly,” he said, underlining what he described as a firm US policy against nuclear proliferation.

The President indicated that the decision to act was based on urgent intelligence assessments. He also suggested that key leadership elements within Iran’s military establishment had been neutralised, though he did not provide independent verification of these claims.

Highlighting the scale of the operation, Trump referred to the deployment of advanced US military assets, including B-2 Spirit bombers. He suggested that their use was critical in preventing Iran from advancing its nuclear programme. “If we didn’t send the B-2 bombers in, they would have had it… we can’t let that happen,” he said.

Despite praising the military success of the operation, Trump struck a measured tone, stating that the action was undertaken out of necessity rather than enthusiasm. “It’s been amazing militarily, but it’s something that had to be done, unfortunately,” he said, adding, “We don’t do it with glee.”

The President also lauded the US armed forces for their role in executing the mission. “We have the most powerful military in the world, and people see that,” he said, extending his appreciation to service members for their professionalism and commitment.

“Dialogue, negotiation, and de-escalation are the ways to make progress,” Martin said, calling for peaceful solutions to ongoing crises. He stressed the need for progress in the Middle East and highlighted the importance of achieving a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

Martin also pointed to the broader human cost of global conflicts, noting that too many lives are being lost worldwide. He urged the international community to work collectively toward building a more stable and peaceful future.
