Rahul Gandhi Meets Reinstated Congress MPs After Suspension Revoked

New Delhi, March 2026 : Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday met Congress MPs whose suspension from the House was revoked a day earlier, holding an informal interaction over tea and coffee in the national capital.

The meeting came shortly after the Lok Sabha withdrew the suspension of eight Congress members, following a proposal moved by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. The decision marked a resolution to the standoff that had arisen during the Budget Session.

The revocation was preceded by an expression of regret from the Congress leadership regarding the conduct of some of its members during earlier proceedings. Party sources indicated that Gandhi used the interaction to understand the sequence of events and discuss the circumstances that led to the suspension and its subsequent withdrawal.

During the meeting, the MPs briefed Gandhi about the developments in the House while they were under suspension. The discussion also touched upon broader parliamentary functioning and the Opposition’s role in raising key public issues.

The MPs whose suspensions were revoked include Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Yadaorao Padole, S. Venkatesh, and Dean Kuriakose.

These eight MPs had been suspended on February 3 for the remainder of the Budget Session over allegations of disrupting proceedings and throwing papers towards the Chair during a heated exchange in the Lok Sabha.

Following the revocation, several Congress leaders welcomed the decision and expressed appreciation to the party leadership as well as the Speaker for facilitating a resolution. At the same time, they asserted that the Opposition would continue to raise issues of public importance and protest against what they described as unequal treatment of Opposition members in Parliament.

The MPs emphasised that the Opposition plays a vital role in a parliamentary democracy, acting as a voice for citizens and ensuring accountability. They reiterated that active participation in debates and discussions is essential to highlight public concerns and strengthen democratic processes.

The development signals a temporary easing of tensions in Parliament, even as political differences between the ruling party and the Opposition persist.
