Woman Trainee IPS Officer Alleges Sexual Harassment by Batchmate at National Police Academy in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 2026 : A woman trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad has accused a fellow trainee officer of sexual harassment, physical assault, intimidation and blackmail, prompting the Hyderabad Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) and launch an investigation into the allegations.

The complaint, lodged on the night of July 18, names trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy as the accused. According to the complainant, the alleged incidents occurred between June 23 and July 10, during their ongoing training at the country’s premier police training institution.

Based on her complaint, the Attapur Police Station has registered a criminal case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials have initiated an investigation and are collecting evidence, including electronic records and statements of witnesses.

In her complaint, the 30-year-old trainee officer alleged that the accused repeatedly subjected her to sexual harassment, intimidation and emotional abuse over a period of nearly three weeks. She claimed that the harassment began on June 23, when the accused allegedly started sending sexually explicit and abusive messages through WhatsApp.

The complainant further alleged that Uday Krishna Reddy made derogatory comments about her in front of fellow trainee officers and falsely spread rumours regarding her personal life by accusing her of having an inappropriate relationship with another trainee. She claimed that these actions were intended to humiliate her and damage her reputation within the academy.

According to the complaint, the accused also allegedly resorted to blackmail and coercion. She stated that he forced her to reveal private conversations by taking away her mobile phone and compelling her to disclose its password. She further alleged that he accessed her personal data without consent.

One of the most serious allegations made by the complainant is that the accused secretly recorded a private video of her without her knowledge or permission and later sent the footage to her husband in an attempt to intimidate and blackmail her.

The complainant has also accused the trainee officer of repeated physical assault. She alleged that on July 8, the accused groped her and attempted to touch her inappropriately. A day later, on July 9, he allegedly wrongfully restrained her, took her to his room, assaulted her physically, grabbed her by the hair, attempted to strangulate her and threatened her by placing a knife against her neck to stop her from leaving the room. She further alleged that she was assaulted again on July 10.

Police officials have not yet disclosed further details of the investigation but confirmed that the allegations are being examined and that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence gathered.

The incident has sparked widespread concern, with political and social organisations calling for a transparent and impartial investigation. Telangana Rakshana Sena, led by K. Kavitha, strongly condemned the alleged incident, describing it as a serious institutional failure.

In a statement posted on social media, the party said it was deeply disturbing that such allegations had emerged from the country’s premier police training academy, where future law enforcement officers are trained to uphold justice and protect citizens.

The organisation stated that if a woman trainee officer could allegedly face such misconduct within the academy itself, it raised serious questions about institutional safety and accountability. It urged authorities to ensure that no attempt is made to shield the accused and demanded that the law take its strictest course.

“Our party strongly condemns this heinous behaviour. The law must take its strictest course without any institutional shielding. True justice must be served immediately to set a stern precedent,” the statement said.

The investigation is currently underway, and authorities are expected to examine digital evidence, witness testimonies and other material as part of the inquiry before proceeding further in accordance with the law.
