US Launches Fresh Airstrikes on Iran After Deadly Attack on Troops in Jordan
Washington, July 2026 : The United States has intensified its military campaign against Iran by launching a fresh wave of airstrikes targeting key military infrastructure, following a deadly attack on American troops stationed in Jordan. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the latest operation was carried out under the direct orders of the Commander in Chief as Washington vowed to hold Iran accountable for attacks on its personnel and threats to regional maritime security.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, CENTCOM confirmed that the new round of airstrikes commenced at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday. According to the command, the strikes are aimed at further weakening Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, while also delivering a swift military response against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which Washington blames for attacks on American forces in Jordan.
“The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan,” CENTCOM said.
The latest escalation follows an attack on a US military installation in Jordan on Friday, in which two American service members were killed while another remains missing, according to US military officials. The incident marked another significant setback for US forces operating in the region and has intensified tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The latest casualties have pushed the total number of US military personnel killed since the United States and Israel began coordinated military operations against Iran on February 28 to 16.
CENTCOM also highlighted the scale of its ongoing military campaign, noting that US forces had completed seven consecutive nights of strikes against Iranian military targets before launching the latest offensive.
According to the command, previous operations targeted a wide range of strategic assets, including surveillance facilities, underground weapons storage sites, military logistics infrastructure and maritime capabilities. The strikes involved fighter aircraft, armed drones, naval warships and other advanced military platforms designed to weaken Iran’s operational capabilities.
The US military further stated that it continues to enforce a naval blockade around Iranian ports while maintaining a robust military presence across the Middle East.
“More than 50,000 American service members are operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and ready,” CENTCOM said, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to protecting its forces and safeguarding regional security.
Over the past week, the United States has carried out repeated attacks on military facilities and infrastructure across Iran’s southern provinces. US officials maintain that the operations are intended to reduce Tehran’s ability to disrupt international shipping and maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes.
The renewed military action marks a further escalation in the ongoing conflict, raising concerns over the possibility of a broader regional confrontation as both sides continue to exchange military strikes. With tensions showing little sign of easing, the latest developments are expected to have significant implications for regional stability, global energy markets and international security.
