Jal Ganga samvardhan Campaign Reflects Sacred Ethos of Sanatan Culture to Save Every Drop of Water : Chief Minister Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Campaign represents the purest stream of India’s Sanatan culture. He stated, emphasising the importance of water that life is unimaginable without it, as the human body is composed of five elements that cannot exist independently. Water is indispensable for all forms of life.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, extending greetings on Gudi Padwa, Vikram Samvat, Cheti Chand and Chaitra Navratri, inaugurated the third phase of the Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign in the state. He said that Madhya Pradesh is the ‘origin of rivers’, with more than 250 rivers flowing from the state. The sacred waters of Maa Narmada bring prosperity not only to Madhya Pradesh but also to Gujarat, while river-linking projects are benefiting neighbouring states such as Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that under the third phase of the campaign, continuous water conservation activities will be undertaken for three months, with development works worth ₹2,500 crore to be carried out across all Assembly constituencies, urban local bodies, and panchayats. While the campaign ran for 30 days in its first year and 120 days in the second year, it is now being conducted for 139 days, from Gudi Padwa to Ganga Dussehra, in its third year.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav addressed the inaugural event of the third state-level Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign held at ISKCON Temple in Indore on Thursday. On this occasion, the
Chief Minister dedicated development works worth ₹22 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, including the Bhoomi Pujan for the restoration of Bilawali Lake costing ₹12.72 crore, Limbodi Lake costing ₹4.89 crore and Chhota Sirpur Lake costing ₹3.82 crore, through a single-click initiative. He also administered a pledge to prevent water wastage and to conserve every drop, urging citizens to spread awareness with the message, ‘Jal hi Jeevan hai, Jal hai to Kal hai’. The Chief Minister also participated in religious and environmental activities, offering prayers at the ISKCON Temple and performing rituals, including feeding cows.
Water Conservation Becoming a National Movement under Prime Minister Shri Modi
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, water conservation has become a national movement, and the Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign is part of this broader vision. Over the past years, extensive work has been undertaken on lakhs of water structures across the state. He stated, referring to Indore, that in the first phase of the campaign, the Indore Municipal Corporation undertook large-scale deepening and restoration of stepwells and ponds, along with the renovation of hundreds of wells. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav appealed to citizens to actively participate, stating that the campaign should evolve into a people’s movement rather than remain a government initiative alone.
Rivers Are Like the Arteries for Water Ecology
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the Chambal River, originating from Janapav near Indore, flows into the Yamuna, which ultimately merges with the Ganga, enriching its flow. He compared rivers to the arteries of the human body, sustaining life on Earth. The Chief Minister emphasised the need to restore ancient water bodies such as wells, rivers, ponds and stepwells built during the times of Samrat Vikramaditya, Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar and Maharaja Scindia. He informed that 21 stepwells in Indore have already been restored and emphasised that the significance of the phrase ‘Jal hai to Kal hai’ must be deeply understood by every individual.
Indian Culture is Rooted in Valour, Effort, Joy and Celebration
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Vikram Samvat 2083 has commenced, and the day is also an occasion to remember Samrat Vikramaditya, whose bravery, generosity, and leadership earned him global recognition. He described Indian culture as one of valour, effort, joy, and celebration. With the advent of spring—the king of seasons—the Indian New Year brings vibrant natural beauty. Festivals in Sanatan culture are celebrated based on seasons, auspicious dates and cosmic cycles, and such occasions call for mangal kamnaayein (auspicious greetings), while shubhkamnaayein are more appropriate for events like birthdays, journeys, interviews, and examinations.
Exercise Caution in Electric Vehicle Charging
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav advised that while modern amenities enhance comfort, caution is essential. He warned that using electrical appliances like air conditioners in closed spaces can pose risks and emphasised the need for regular inspection of electrical circuits in homes and commercial establishments. Special caution must be exercised during electric vehicle charging, particularly at night, and individuals should ensure the safety of their families. He said, referring to the recent tragic fire accident in Indore, the state government is working with experts to find solutions and prevent such occurrences.
Campaign Will Prove a Milestone in State’s Development
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat said that the state-level campaign is being launched from the ISKCON Temple in the city of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav has initiated the campaign for the third time to conserve every drop of water. The campaign will focus on the restoration of rivers, ponds, and canals, and on maximising rainwater harvesting. He stated that irrigation coverage in the state has increased by nearly 8 lakh hectares in the past two years, with a target of expanding it to 100 lakh hectares in the coming years. The Government of India’s initiative to build Amrit Sarovars in villages is also being implemented with commitment. He expressed confidence that the campaign will become a milestone in the state’s development.
MP Shri Shankar Lalwani said that Madhya Pradesh is progressing rapidly in development and is emerging as a leader in irrigation expansion. He praised Indore for its achievements in development and environmental conservation, particularly the rising groundwater levels, which reflect successful water conservation efforts.
Mayor of Indore Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, significant efforts have been made over the past two years to rejuvenate water sources across the state, giving them new direction and form. The Jal Ganga Conservation Campaign is becoming a powerful medium for revitalising water resources.
