Chief Secretary Visits Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve, Emphasises Eco-Tourism
Jaipur, March 2026 : Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas visited the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve on Sunday and expressed admiration for its rich wildlife and biodiversity during a Chambal river safari.
The visit began early in the morning from Kishorpura Jetty, as the Chief Secretary undertook a boat safari along the Chambal River up to Garadia Mahadev. During the journey, he observed the reserve’s scenic beauty and diverse wildlife, including several bird species such as Indian Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Indian Eagle Owl, and Brown Fish Owl. Crocodiles in the river also added to the experience. District Collector Piyush Samaria accompanied him.
Highlighting the importance of wildlife tourism, Srinivas stressed that promoting jungle and boat safaris can help connect more people with natural heritage. He noted that such initiatives not only raise awareness about wildlife conservation but also create new livelihood and employment opportunities for local communities.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the conservation efforts being undertaken at the reserve and its unique biodiversity. Referring to World Water Day, he said that being present in the middle of the Chambal River on this occasion sends a strong message about the importance of water conservation and serves as an inspiration for the entire state.
During the visit, officials briefed him on various conservation initiatives, including inter-state tiger translocation, prey base augmentation, habitat improvement, and grassland development. He was also informed about innovative measures such as lifting water from the Chambal River using solar energy to ensure uninterrupted water supply for wildlife during the summer months.
Srinivas also reviewed patrolling systems using the M-STrIPES app, along with foot and boat patrols, aimed at strengthening wildlife protection in the reserve. Senior forest officials and staff were present during the visit.
