Thorough Probe Ordered into Majalgaon Sand Smuggling Case, Says CM Fadnavis

Mumbai, March 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday informed the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly that a detailed investigation will be carried out into the alleged sand smuggling case in Majalgaon, Beed district, considering the seriousness of the matter.

He said that mobile phones of three suspects had been seized in connection with the case, which involves allegations of collusion by certain police personnel. Even deleted data from these devices was successfully retrieved using advanced technology. However, after analysing the recovered data, no concrete evidence has been found to establish direct collusion or links among the accused individuals. Despite this, the government has decided to conduct a comprehensive probe covering all possible angles.

The issue was raised in the Assembly by member Prakash (Dada) Solanke, who alleged that sand smuggling was being carried out in Majalgaon with the involvement of the police. Members Nana Patole and Arjun Khotkar also participated in the discussion.

Responding to the concerns, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the state has active units such as the Local Crime Branch (LCB) and special investigation teams that continuously work to control various types of crimes. He added that, based on complaints of irregularities in certain areas, specific criteria have been established for appointing officials, and these are being strictly implemented.

Minister of State Yogesh Kadam informed the House that action has already been taken by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the matter, and a concerned constable has been suspended. He added that the forensic analysis report of the seized mobile phones has been received, which does not reveal any objectionable conversation between the accused and the police inspector.

As part of the investigation process, the police inspector concerned was temporarily attached to the control room to ensure that the probe was not influenced in any way. Following the report, which found no involvement of the officer, he has now been transferred back to regular duties, Kadam added.
