Speaking at a House Republican dinner, Trump said sustained US pressure has pushed Iran toward negotiations. “They are negotiating, and they want to make a deal so badly, but they’re afraid to say it,” he remarked. He described the broader outcome as a strategic success, asserting that the conflict had effectively been curtailed shortly after US intervention. “The war essentially ended a few days after we went in,” Trump said, presenting the operations as both swift and impactful.

Reiterating Washington’s long-standing position, Trump stressed that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remains the central objective of US policy. “We had to cut out the cancer… the cancer was Iran with a nuclear weapon,” he said, underlining the administration’s focus on eliminating what it views as a critical threat.

Trump also defended his earlier decision to withdraw from a previous nuclear agreement with Iran, arguing that it prevented Tehran from advancing its programme further. He claimed that without that move, Iran could have developed and potentially used a nuclear weapon years earlier.
