Bengaluru, March 2026 : The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway in thrilling fashion as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the opening match at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to bowl first, inviting Hyderabad to set a target on what appeared to be a fresh pitch. The decision reflected confidence in RCB’s bowling unit and a strategy to chase under lights in familiar home conditions.

Speaking at the toss, Patidar emphasised that despite being defending champions, the team was approaching the new season with a fresh mindset. He noted that the pitch looked good for batting and said the toss would not significantly impact their approach. According to Kishan, the team’s focus would remain on executing their game plans effectively rather than experimenting with new strategies.
