CSK Collapse to 127 as Royals’ Bowlers Dominate IPL 2026 Clash

Mumbai/Guwahati, March 2026 : Chennai Super Kings endured a batting collapse yet again, getting bowled out for a modest 127 in 19.4 overs against Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2026 encounter, as a disciplined bowling performance put the Royals firmly in control.

On a red-soil surface at the Barsapara Cricket Ground that offered early assistance due to pre-match drizzle, Rajasthan’s pace attack made immediate inroads. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger exploited the conditions brilliantly, sharing four wickets between them and dismantling Chennai’s top order inside the powerplay.

The slide began early when Sanju Samson was dismissed for 6, followed soon by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was bowled attempting an aggressive stroke. Ayush Mhatre fell for a duck shortly after, leaving CSK reeling. The early blows reduced Chennai to a precarious position, with the Royals maintaining relentless pressure through tight lines and aggressive field placements.

With the scoreboard reading 41/4 at the end of the powerplay, Chennai’s hopes of posting a competitive total were already under threat. Sarfaraz Khan, introduced as an impact substitute, attempted to counterattack and briefly steadied the innings with some fluent strokeplay. However, his resistance was cut short when he was trapped lbw by Ravindra Jadeja, who delivered a crucial double strike in the middle overs.

Jadeja’s intervention further derailed Chennai’s innings, as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Shivam Dube, Kartik Sharma and Noor Ahmad failed to build partnerships, with Rajasthan’s bowlers maintaining control. Ravi Bishnoi also chipped in with a sharp caught-and-bowled effort, while the pressure mounted steadily.

Amid the collapse, Jamie Overton emerged as the lone bright spot for Chennai. Batting at number eight, Overton played a gritty knock of 43 off 36 balls, mixing caution with aggression to push the total past the 120-mark. He found brief support from Anshul Kamboj, but the lack of substantial partnerships meant CSK could not recover fully.

A mix-up in running between the wickets eventually led to Overton’s run-out, bringing an end to Chennai’s innings. The team’s failure to bat out the full 20 overs reflected the sustained pressure applied by Rajasthan throughout.

Experts believe the total is well below par for a T20 contest, placing additional responsibility on Chennai’s bowlers to keep them in the game. Despite the setback, CSK will look to their experienced bowling unit to deliver early breakthroughs and create pressure on the Royals’ batting lineup.

For Rajasthan, the performance marks a strong start under new captain Riyan Parag, with the bowlers executing their plans to perfection. As the match progresses, the contest remains open, with Chennai hoping for a turnaround through disciplined bowling, while Rajasthan eyes a comfortable chase to secure victory.

Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 127 in 19.4 overs (Jamie Overton 43, Kartik Sharma 18; Ravindra Jadeja 2-18, Jofra Archer 2-19) against Rajasthan Royals
