Suryavanshi’s 17-Ball Blitz Powers Rajasthan Royals to Dominant Win Over CSK

Guwahati, March 2026 : A sensational knock by Vaibhav Suryavanshi powered the Rajasthan Royals to a commanding eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in their opening match of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the ACA Stadium on Monday.

Explosive Start Sets the Tone

Chasing a modest target of 128, Rajasthan Royals came out all guns blazing, led by Suryavanshi’s extraordinary innings. The young batter smashed 52 runs off just 17 balls, reaching his half-century in a mere 15 deliveries — the third-fastest fifty in IPL history. His innings, studded with four boundaries and five towering sixes, dismantled the CSK bowling attack early in the chase.

The Royals raced to 74 without loss in the powerplay, effectively putting the game beyond Chennai’s reach within the first six overs. Suryavanshi dominated from the outset, punishing anything loose and capitalising on an early reprieve when he was dropped on zero.

Jaiswal and Parag Seal the Chase

After Suryavanshi’s departure, Yashasvi Jaiswal (38 not out) and captain Riyan Parag (14 not out) ensured there were no hiccups. The duo calmly guided the team home, completing the chase in just 12.1 overs with 47 balls to spare.

Earlier, Suryavanshi had torn apart the opposition attack, taking on pacers and spinners alike. Bowlers like Matt Henry and Anshul Kamboj struggled to contain the onslaught, as boundaries flowed freely across the ground. Even the introduction of spin failed to slow him down, with the batter continuing his aggressive stroke play.

CSK’s Bowling Under Pressure

The Chennai Super Kings bowlers had no answers to Rajasthan’s aggressive approach. Despite a brief moment of hope when Suryavanshi was dismissed after attempting another big shot, the damage had already been done.

Earlier: RR Bowlers Set the Foundation

The emphatic victory was set up earlier by a disciplined bowling effort from Rajasthan Royals, who bundled out Chennai Super Kings for just 127 in 19.4 overs. Contributions from bowlers, including Ravindra Jadeja and Jofra Archer, ensured CSK never gained momentum with the bat.

Only Jamie Overton showed resistance for Chennai with a fighting 43, but the lack of partnerships hurt their chances of posting a competitive total.

Statement Win for Rajasthan

The comprehensive win marks a strong start to Rajasthan Royals’ campaign under new leadership. With a blend of aggressive batting and disciplined bowling, the team showcased its intent early in the tournament.

For Chennai Super Kings, however, the defeat highlights concerns in both batting and bowling departments, which they will need to address quickly as the competition progresses.

Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 127 in 19.4 overs (Jamie Overton 43, Kartik Sharma 18; Ravindra Jadeja 2-18, Jofra Archer 2-19) lost to Rajasthan Royals 128/2 in 12.1 overs (Vaibhav Suryavanshi 52, Yashasvi Jaiswal 38 not out; Anshul Kamboj 2-27) by eight wickets
