Khelo India Tribal Games: Jharkhand’s Anjit Munda Becomes Gold in Wrestling, Forged Like Gold in the Furnace of Struggles

Khelo India Tribal Games : Serving in the Indian Army as an ‘Agniveer’

Raipur, March 2026 : They say that if intentions are iron-like and dedication towards the goal exists, even deprivation cannot stop the path to success. Young wrestler Anjit Kumar Munda, resident of the small village Sugia in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, has proved this to be true. During the Khelo India Tribal Games held at Gandhi Stadium, Ambikapur, Anjit performed brilliantly in the 67-kilogram weight category wrestling competition, winning the gold medal.

Journey from Struggle to Success
Anjit, who reached the peak of success at just 20 years of age, has had a life full of challenges. After losing the shadow of his father in 2009, his mother managed the family through farming and hard work. Anjit began wrestling in 2017–18 and trained rigorously for almost six years at the JSSPS Sports Academy. Seeing his physical capability and technique, the coaches shaped him for wrestling.

Serving in the Indian Army as an ‘Agniveer’
Anjit’s sporting talent and zeal for serving the country brought him to the Indian Army. Just last year, he was selected for the post of ‘Agniveer GD’. He credits his success to his coach.

A Big Platform for Tribal Talents
Expressing happiness over his victory, Anjit Munda said, “The Khelo India Tribal Games is an excellent platform for tribal children like us, who are often left behind from the mainstream. Winning gold in the first edition of this competition is a matter of pride for me. Now my next goal is to perform my best in the upcoming competitions to be held in Chhattisgarh.”

Hope for a Bright Future
Previously deprived of scholarships due to winning a bronze medal, Anjit now fully expects support and scholarships from the central government after winning the gold medal, so that he can shine for the country at the international level. Anjit’s achievement in the Khelo India Tribal Games held in Ambikapur has become a source of inspiration not only for Jharkhand but for tribal youth across the country.
