IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals Opt to Bowl Against Lucknow Super Giants in Season Clash

Lucknow, April 2026 : Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants in the fifth match of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Delhi skipper Axar Patel said the decision was influenced by pitch conditions and early tournament strategy. “We will bowl first. It’s the first game on red soil, so we want to assess how the pitch behaves. Data suggests chasing teams have had more success, and we want to test our bowling combination,” he said. Patel also reflected on last season, noting that despite a strong start, the team narrowly missed qualification due to a mid-season setback. “We aim to begin well again and maintain consistency,” he added.

Speaking about the team combination, Patel confirmed the inclusion of overseas players David Miller, Pathum Nissanka, Tristan Stubbs, and Lungi Ngidi, forming a balanced mix of batting depth and pace attack.

On the other side, Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant remained unfazed by the toss outcome. He emphasised that conditions would likely remain consistent throughout the match, apart from the possibility of dew later in the evening. “It doesn’t matter much on a wicket like this. We are entering the season with a fresh mindset, new identity, and renewed energy,” Pant said.

Pant also highlighted the team’s focus on addressing weaknesses from the previous season, including managing injuries. “The bowlers are fit and eager to make an impact. As a captain, I prefer to focus on performance rather than setbacks,” he added confidently.
