Grand Opening of Mallakhamb at Gandhi Stadium Ambikapur, Strong Display of Traditional Sports at Khelo India Tribal Games 2026

Raipur, April 2026 : The traditional Indian sport of Mallakhamb was grandly inaugurated at Gandhi Stadium in Ambikapur, located in Surguja district, under the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026. On this occasion, athletes mesmerised the audience with remarkable displays of balance, strength, and flexibility.

Mallakhamb, which is an important part of India’s ancient sporting tradition, has been included in the competition as a demonstration sport. Through this, efforts are being made to give traditional sports recognition at the national level. Teams from 14 states across the country are participating in the competition, giving the event a national stature.

Various events are being organised under the Mallakhamb competition. These include team championships (pole and rope Mallakhamb) in both boys’ and girls’ categories, pyramid championships, and events such as pyramid, pole, rope Mallakhamb, and hanging Mallakhamb in both men’s and women’s categories. A maximum of six players are allowed to participate in team events.

At the Gandhi Stadium venue, participants from different states presented captivating performances on pole and rope Mallakhamb. The audience enthusiastically applauded the athletes, encouraging them for their outstanding performances.

The objective of the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 is to provide a platform for hidden sporting talent in tribal regions and to inspire youth towards sports. This event is offering local talents a valuable opportunity to showcase their abilities.
