Orders for Re-verification of Auto-Rickshaw Permits in Mira-Bhayander: Minister Pratap Sarnaik

Mumbai, April 2026 : Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed a comprehensive re-verification of all auto-rickshaw permits and badge distributions in the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation area, with instructions to submit a detailed report by May 1.

The directive follows complaints raised by MLA Narendra Mehta. In response, a बैठक (meeting) was held under the chairmanship of Minister Sarnaik at the District Collector’s office in Bandra, attended by transport officials from across the state.

Those present at the meeting included Transport Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, Additional Transport Commissioner Bharat Kalaskar, and Deputy Secretary Chetan Nikam. Other transport officials from across Maharashtra participated through video conferencing.

Minister Sarnaik stated that although the permit issuance process is conducted online, several complaints have surfaced regarding permits being granted based on fake or forged documents. In this context, he highlighted reports that some foreign nationals allegedly obtained residence certificates and secured auto-rickshaw and taxi permits in the Mira-Bhayander region.

He ordered a thorough investigation into these allegations and instructed all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to review permits issued over the past few years. The minister said that this state-wide verification drive will begin from the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation area.

A special campaign will be carried out in the region, involving detailed scrutiny of all auto-rickshaw permits. For this purpose, a month-long special camp will be organised, during which each document will be carefully examined.

Minister Sarnaik also directed that adequate officers and staff be deployed to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the verification process.

The initiative aims to enhance transparency and eliminate irregularities in the permit system, ensuring that only eligible applicants benefit from transport licences.
