PBKS Opt to Bowl Against CSK as IPL 2026 Clash Begins in Chennai

Chennai, April 2026 : Punjab Kings (PBKS) won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their Indian Premier League 2026 encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said the decision was influenced by the nature of the pitch and the advantage of assessing conditions early. “It’s their first game at home, and the wicket looks fresh. We want to see how it behaves and then plan accordingly,” he explained.

Addressing concerns over his recent hand injury, Iyer remained optimistic. He said maintaining a positive mindset is key to staying match-ready and confident. Reflecting on his batting approach, he added that he has adopted a more aggressive mindset in recent seasons, especially when under pressure, and aims to continue that approach this year. PBKS have opted to go with an unchanged playing XI, banking on momentum from their previous performance.

On the other hand, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed satisfaction with batting first, noting that the pitch appeared slightly dry and unlikely to change significantly. He also pointed out that dew could become a factor later in the match, making it advantageous to put runs on the board and defend.

Gaikwad acknowledged the team’s batting struggles in their previous outing against Rajasthan Royals but stressed the importance of moving forward. “We’ve put that game behind us. It’s about focusing on the present and improving step by step,” he said. He highlighted the importance of strong opening partnerships and welcomed Sanju Samson as his opening partner for the match.

CSK have made one change to their lineup, bringing in Prashant Veer in place of Matthew Short.

Punjab Kings: Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (c), Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
