TMC Intensifies Campaign in Purba Bardhaman, Abhishek Banerjee Targets BJP Ahead of Bengal Polls

Kolkata, April 2026 : The Trinamool Congress (TMC) stepped up its campaign for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections with a strong show of strength in Purba Bardhaman on Sunday, as party leader Abhishek Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and called for a decisive electoral mandate.

Addressing a large public gathering, Abhishek Banerjee introduced the party’s “Maa-Mati-Manush” candidates and urged voters to rally behind Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He appealed to the electorate to use the power of the ballot to defeat what he termed “anti-Bengal, outsider landlords,” asserting that the BJP would face a resounding rejection in the district.

“Purba Bardhaman is ready to give a strong reply through votes. The people will deliver a message so powerful that the BJP will not dare to return here,” he said, projecting confidence in the party’s grassroots support.

The TMC highlighted the district’s crucial role in the 2021 Assembly elections, when it delivered a clean sweep and significantly contributed to Mamata Banerjee’s return to power for a third consecutive term. Drawing parallels, the party expressed optimism that Purba Bardhaman would once again emerge as a stronghold, predicting victory in all 16 Assembly constituencies in the district.

Party leaders pointed to the enthusiastic turnout at the rally as evidence of growing support, claiming that the electorate is firmly aligned with TMC’s vision. “The people of Purba Bardhaman have always stood with us, and this time too they will ensure a landslide victory,” party representatives said.

On Saturday, Abhishek Banerjee also took aim at the BJP’s “double engine” governance narrative, accusing the party of misusing central institutions for political gain. In a strongly worded social media post, he alleged that one “engine” of the BJP operates through the manipulation of democratic processes, including alleged interference in voter lists and administrative systems, while the other relies on fostering division through local allies to polarise voters.

He further claimed that the people of West Bengal have recognised these tactics and would reject them at the ballot box. His remarks reflect the increasingly sharp rhetoric dominating the campaign, as both major parties intensify their outreach efforts.

At a separate meeting in Raina, Abhishek issued a warning to party workers, alleging that some individuals within the organisation were attempting to weaken the TMC by colluding with the BJP for financial gains. He cautioned that the party leadership is closely monitoring such activities and would take strict action against those found undermining the organisation.

“The party keeps a watch on everyone. Those trying to weaken us from within will not be spared,” he said, reinforcing the importance of unity within the ranks ahead of the elections.

The rally also saw support for TMC candidate Mandira Dolui, who has been fielded from the Raina constituency. Abhishek expressed confidence that the party would not only retain the seat but also significantly increase its winning margin compared to previous elections.

Meanwhile, the TMC has announced its list of star campaigners for the first phase of the elections, featuring top leaders including Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, along with several senior ministers, MPs, and prominent public figures. The party is banking on this lineup to galvanise voters across constituencies.

The West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4. As the contest heats up, both TMC and BJP are intensifying their campaigns, making Purba Bardhaman a key battleground in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes electoral fight.

With strong rhetoric, organisational focus, and strategic mobilisation, the TMC is aiming to replicate its previous success and maintain its dominance in the state, while the BJP continues its push to expand its footprint in West Bengal politics.
