Rain Delays Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians Clash in Guwahati

Guwahati, April 2026 : The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium was delayed on Tuesday due to persistent rain that lashed the city for nearly three hours.

Heavy showers that began early in the afternoon forced ground staff to deploy full covers across the playing area, disrupting pre-match preparations. Although the intensity of the drizzle slightly increased around the scheduled start time of 7:30 pm, there were signs of improvement as the ground staff began removing covers from the side wickets and working to restore the field.

The super sopper was brought into action to clear excess water, with officials making efforts to ensure the ground could be made match-ready at the earliest. However, portions of the main pitch remained covered as a precaution. Match officials were expected to take a call on the toss timing soon, with the possibility of a full match still intact if play commenced before 8:30 pm.

This fixture marks Rajasthan Royals’ second “home” game at the Barsapara venue, where they have enjoyed a strong start this season. Having won both their previous matches, the Royals are aiming to continue their unbeaten run and strengthen their position in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have had a mixed start to their campaign. The five-time champions began with a win over Kolkata Knight Riders but suffered a setback in their following match against Delhi Capitals. They will be keen to bounce back and regain momentum.

The encounter has generated significant excitement among fans, largely due to the intriguing contest between Jasprit Bumrah and rising teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old batter from Bihar has emerged as one of the most exciting talents this season, impressing with his fearless stroke play and remarkable power-hitting.

Sooryavanshi has already made headlines by scoring a century and smashing 30 sixes in the tournament so far, with a majority of them coming against pace bowlers. His ability to take on fast bowling has added to the anticipation surrounding his face-off with Bumrah, widely regarded as India’s premier pacer.

Fans were eagerly awaiting this high-voltage duel, but the rain has temporarily put the contest on hold. As ground conditions continue to improve, spectators remain hopeful that play will begin soon, allowing the much-anticipated clash to unfold under clearer skies.

Team Maverick.
