White House Calls Iran Campaign a ‘Victory’, Credits Military Success for Diplomatic Opening
Washington, April 2026 : The White House has described the United States’ recent military campaign against Iran as a “victory,” asserting that battlefield gains under President Donald Trump created the leverage necessary to open the door for diplomacy after a pause in strikes was ordered.
In a statement posted on X late Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration views the development not as a retreat, but as a strategic success achieved through decisive military action.
“This is a victory for the United States that President Trump and our incredible military made happen,” Leavitt said, highlighting the administration’s efforts to frame the halt in hostilities as the outcome of strength rather than compromise.
She revealed that the campaign, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, had surpassed its initial objectives ahead of schedule. According to Leavitt, the operation was originally expected to last between four to six weeks but concluded its primary goals in just 38 days.
“From the very beginning of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump estimated this would be a 4–6 week operation. Thanks to the extraordinary capabilities of our forces, we achieved and exceeded our core military objectives in 38 days,” she said.
The statement marks the administration’s clearest attempt yet to position the pause in strikes as a calculated move following operational success, rather than a de-escalation under pressure. Officials argue that sustained military pressure forced Iran into a position where negotiations became unavoidable.
Leavitt emphasized that the campaign significantly strengthened Washington’s negotiating hand. “The success of our military created maximum leverage, allowing President Trump and his team to engage in tough negotiations that have now opened a pathway for a diplomatic solution and long-term peace,” she stated.
A key element of the administration’s narrative is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route that had been at the centre of rising tensions. The White House credited the military campaign with ensuring the restoration of safe passage through the waterway, which carries a substantial portion of the world’s oil supply.
“Additionally, President Trump got the Strait of Hormuz reopened,” Leavitt noted, linking the development directly to the broader strategic outcome of the operation.
The administration has indicated that further details about the campaign will be provided by senior defence officials, including Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Chairman Caine, in an upcoming briefing.
Earlier, Trump had announced a two-week suspension of planned military strikes on Iran, contingent upon Tehran’s cooperation in reopening the Strait of Hormuz and engaging in diplomatic talks. The move is being presented as part of a broader strategy to transition from military confrontation to negotiated resolution.
As tensions in the Gulf region remain high, the White House continues to maintain that its combination of military pressure and diplomatic outreach has created a viable opportunity for de-escalation and a potential long-term peace framework.
