Gill, Sundar Power Gujarat Titans to 210/4 Against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026 Clash

New Delhi, April 2026 : The Gujarat Titans delivered a commanding batting performance to post a formidable total of 210/4 in 20 overs against the Delhi Capitals in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel backed his side’s recent success in chasing totals. However, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, turned the contest on its head with an aggressive and well-structured batting display from the outset.

Gill, returning to the side after missing the previous match due to a neck spasm, led from the front with a composed yet attacking knock of 70 runs. His innings provided the perfect platform for Gujarat, setting the tone early and ensuring momentum remained firmly with his team. Alongside him, Sai Sudharsan contributed to a solid opening phase, continuing their consistent partnership at the top.

The highlight of the innings came through an impressive partnership between Gill and Washington Sundar, who played a crucial knock of 55 runs. Sundar’s innings combined elegance with calculated aggression, allowing Gujarat to maintain a high scoring rate through the middle overs. Their partnership proved instrumental in pushing the total beyond the 200-run mark.

The middle order further capitalised on the strong foundation, with quick contributions from players like Glenn Phillips and Rahul Tewatia, ensuring the रन रेट remained high till the end. Gujarat’s batters consistently found gaps and punished loose deliveries, leaving Delhi’s bowlers struggling to find rhythm.

On the bowling front, Delhi Capitals lacked consistency, conceding runs at regular intervals. Despite having experienced bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi, the attack failed to contain the opposition on a pitch that appeared dry but favourable for batting.

Earlier, at the toss, Axar Patel mentioned that his team remained unchanged from their previous win and highlighted their strategy of adapting to pitch conditions while relying on match-ups. He also noted that recent rain might have left some moisture on the surface, influencing his decision to bowl first.

Gill, on the other hand, stated that he would have opted to bat anyway, citing the importance of assessing conditions early and building a strong Power-play. He also expressed confidence in his team’s batting unit, pointing out that they had come close in their previous game and were due for a complete performance.

The pitch, identified as pitch number five, featured even square boundaries and a 73-metre straight boundary. Experts observed that the lighter colour and reduced grass cover indicated a dry surface conducive to high scoring, which was evident in Gujarat’s innings.

Chasing 211, Delhi Capitals now face a challenging task. A strong and aggressive start will be crucial, along with sustained partnerships through the innings. The outcome of the match will largely depend on how Delhi’s batting lineup responds under pressure. Early wickets could tilt the game decisively in Gujarat’s favour, while a steady chase could keep Delhi in contention.

With momentum firmly on Gujarat’s side, the second innings promises an intense battle as Delhi attempts to overhaul a daunting target in front of their home crowd.
