Iran Accuses US of Breaching Key Clauses Ahead of Talks, Tensions Rise
Tehran, April 2026 : A fresh diplomatic dispute has emerged as Iran accused the United States of violating multiple provisions of the proposed 10-Point framework meant to guide upcoming negotiations, casting doubt over the viability of future talks.
In a strongly worded statement, Iranian officials said their “deep historical distrust” of Washington had been reinforced by what they described as repeated breaches of agreed commitments. The framework, earlier termed a “workable basis” for negotiations by Donald Trump, is now under strain even before formal discussions begin.
Tehran outlined three specific violations. The first relates to alleged non-compliance with a ceasefire clause concerning Lebanon. Iranian authorities pointed to remarks by Shehbaz Sharif, who had called for an immediate ceasefire across all affected regions, including Lebanon, as part of broader de-escalation efforts.
The second issue involved an incident in which an unmanned drone reportedly entered Iranian airspace and was subsequently shot down in Lar, located in Fars Province. Iranian officials described the incident as a direct breach of sovereignty and contrary to the spirit of the proposed agreement.
The third and most contentious point concerns Iran’s right to uranium enrichment. Tehran argued that this right is explicitly recognised under the sixth clause of the framework and criticised Washington for denying it, calling the move a fundamental violation of agreed principles.
According to the statement, these actions undermine the credibility of the negotiation process. “The very workable basis on which to negotiate has been openly and clearly violated,” it said, adding that under such circumstances, pursuing a bilateral ceasefire or talks would be “unreasonable.”
The developments come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to mediate and stabilise the region. However, the latest accusations highlight the fragile trust between Tehran and Washington, raising serious concerns about whether meaningful negotiations can proceed.
