Lunglei DLIC on Mission Shakti Convenes Meeting
Lunglei : The Lunglei District Level Implementing Committee (DLIC) on Mission Shakti, chaired by Lunglei District Magistrate Pu R. Lalthazuala, held a meeting today at the Lunglei DC Conference Hall. The meeting focused on the implementation strategies for various initiatives under Mission Shakti in the Lunglei District.
Chairman Pu R. Lalthazuala emphasized the importance of the government’s initiatives for the protection and empowerment of women. He stressed the need for meticulous planning and urged committee members to approach their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication. The DLIC Convener, Lunglei District Programme Officer (WCD) Pu C. Lalnunfela, elaborated on the purpose of the meeting and the objectives to be achieved. Additionally, the District Mission Coordinator for the Lunglei District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Pi K. Lalrinawmi, provided an overview of the progress made under Mission Shakti within the district. The committee also discussed plans to implement further strategies for the district in alignment with directives from the central and state governments.

During the meeting, it was noted that a special 100-day awareness and enrolment drive under Mission Shakti is ongoing from June 21 to October 4, 2024. The drive includes collaborations with various departments, schools, churches, and organizations to promote women’s safety, empowerment, and skill development. Plans for upcoming initiatives, including tree planting at DEO Complex and health awareness programs, were also outlined.
Mission Shakti is a government initiative focused on women’s safety, security, and empowerment, spanning the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26 under the 15th Finance Commission. It includes two sub-schemes: SAMBAL (Safety & Security) and SAMARTHYA (Empowerment). Under SAMBAL, services like One Stop Centres (OSC) for women facing violence, a Universal Women Helpline (WHL) with toll-free number 181, and the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative are being implemented. Under SAMARTHYA, initiatives such as Shakti Sadan (Integrated Relief and Rehabilitation Home), PALNA (Anganwadi-cum-Creche Centre), and Sakhi Niwas (Working Women Hostel) are in progress, along with the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) for maternity benefits.
In Lunglei, the OSC is located at Serkawn, Shakti Sadan at Bazarveng, and Sakhi Niwas at Chanmari, managed by the MHIP Sub-Headquarters.
