New Delhi, April 2026 : International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah has been named to the prestigious Young Global Leaders (YGL) Class of 2026 by the World Economic Forum, underscoring his rising influence in global sports administration and leadership.
The recognition highlights Shah’s growing role in shaping the future of international cricket. As one of the youngest administrators to have served as secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, he has played a pivotal part in driving reforms and expansion within the sport.
During his tenure, Shah has overseen critical developments in the Indian Premier League, including high-value media rights agreements and structural growth. He has also been a strong advocate for women’s cricket, contributing to its increasing visibility and professionalisation on the global stage.
One of his most notable achievements has been his role in securing cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics, marking the sport’s return to the Olympic programme after more than a century. This move is expected to significantly boost cricket’s global reach, especially in emerging markets.
A statement announcing his selection noted that Shah’s leadership has been instrumental in expanding cricket’s international footprint and strengthening collaborations among cricketing nations. It emphasised his focus on long-term growth strategies, positioning the sport to thrive across both traditional strongholds and newer regions.
The YGL programme brings together a diverse group of 118 leaders under the age of 40 from 55 countries, spanning sectors such as governance, business, science, and culture. By joining this cohort, Shah becomes part of a global network of influential individuals working to drive innovation and positive change.
The 2026 class also includes prominent figures such as Tomas Okmanas, Olympic champion Thea LaFond, tech entrepreneur Jennifer Zhang, and academic Sally Nuamah, reflecting the programme’s global and multidisciplinary character.
Shah’s inclusion not only highlights his personal achievements but also reinforces India’s growing presence on influential international platforms. His recognition is seen as a significant milestone for Indian sports administration, further strengthening the country’s voice in global cricket governance.
With cricket poised for expansion into new territories and platforms, Shah’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in guiding the sport through its next phase of global growth and transformation.
