Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen Power SRH to 194/9 Against CSK in IPL 2026
Hyderabad, April 2026 : Half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to a competitive total of 194/9 in 20 overs against Chennai Super Kings in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday.
Asked to bat first, SRH made a steady start before shifting gears aggressively. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head looked in control early on, taking a cautious approach initially before launching into an attacking display during the power-play. The turning point came in the fifth over when Abhishek unleashed a brutal assault on Matthew Short, smashing 25 runs with a combination of boundaries and sixes, propelling SRH to 63 without loss in just five overs.
However, CSK responded strongly in the following over. Mukesh Choudhary struck twice, dismissing Head for 23 and removing SRH skipper Ishan Kishan for a duck on consecutive deliveries, reducing the hosts to 75/2 at the end of the power-play.
Abhishek continued his aggressive approach but fell in the eighth over to Jamie Overton after a blistering knock of 59 off just 22 balls, which included six fours and four sixes. His dismissal triggered a brief wobble as wickets fell at regular intervals, with Aniket Verma also departing soon after.
With the innings in danger of losing momentum, Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy stitched together a valuable 35-run partnership to stabilise the innings. Reddy contributed 12 runs before falling in the 14th over, again to Overton.
Klaasen then took charge, playing calculated attacking shots to keep the scoreboard ticking. The South African reached his third half-century of the season in 32 balls, anchoring the innings during the middle overs. He was eventually dismissed in the 18th over by Anshul Kamboj after scoring a well-crafted 59 off 39 balls, laced with six fours and two sixes.
In the final overs, SRH looked to push past the 200-mark, but disciplined bowling from CSK prevented a late surge. Contributions from Shivam Kumar (12 off 8) added some late runs, but frequent wickets in the death overs halted their progress. Liam Livingstone, introduced as an impact player, failed to make a significant contribution.
For CSK, Overton and Kamboj were the standout performers, claiming three wickets each, while Choudhary chipped in with two crucial scalps.
Brief Scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad 194/9 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 59, Heinrich Klaasen 59; Anshul Kamboj 3/22, Jamie Overton 3/37, Mukesh Choudhary 2/21) vs Chennai Super Kings.
