Punjab Kings Hammer LSG by 54 Runs to Stay Unbeaten in IPL 2026

New Chandigarh, April 2026 : Punjab Kings continued their dominant run in the Indian Premier League 2026, securing a convincing 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. With this emphatic win, Punjab Kings extended their unbeaten streak and consolidated their position at the top of the points table.

After posting a formidable total of 254/7—their highest of the season—Punjab’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to restrict Lucknow to 200/5. Marco Jansen led the bowling effort with figures of 2/37, while Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Vijaykumar Vyshak chipped in with crucial wickets.

Punjab’s massive total was built on the back of explosive innings from opener Priyansh Arya, who smashed 93 off just 37 balls, and Australian batter Cooper Connolly, who scored a brilliant 87 off 46 deliveries. The duo’s aggressive stroke play ensured Lucknow were set a daunting target of 255.

Chasing such a huge total was always going to be a challenging task for Lucknow, who experimented with a new opening combination featuring Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni. The pair started positively, putting together a 61-run opening stand and hitting boundaries regularly to keep the scoreboard ticking.

However, the breakthrough came at a crucial moment when Vyshak dismissed Badoni on the final ball of the powerplay with a well-disguised slower delivery. Despite the setback, Marsh and captain Rishabh Pant tried to revive the chase with some aggressive hitting, including back-to-back sixes off Jansen.

The introduction of Chahal proved to be a turning point in the match. The experienced leg-spinner tightened the scoring and broke the partnership by dismissing Marsh, who fell while attempting a big shot. Pant briefly kept Lucknow’s hopes alive with a quickfire 43, including consecutive sixes off Chahal, but his dismissal—caught behind off Arshdeep—effectively ended any realistic chance of a comeback.

Lucknow’s struggles continued as Nicholas Pooran failed to make an impact, falling cheaply to Jansen. Although Aiden Markram (42) and Mukul Choudhary (21 not out) added some late runs and entertained with a few boundaries, the outcome was never in doubt.

Punjab Kings’ fielding did show minor lapses in the final overs, including a few dropped catches, but it did little to change the result. The team’s all-round performance ensured a comfortable victory in front of their home crowd.

With this defeat, Lucknow Super Giants suffered their third consecutive loss and slipped to eighth place in the standings, ahead of only Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. They will need to regroup quickly to stay in contention as the tournament progresses.

In summary, Punjab Kings showcased a complete team performance—dominating with the bat and maintaining control with the ball—to further establish themselves as one of the strongest contenders in IPL 2026.

Brief Scores: Punjab Kings 254/7 in 20 overs (Priyansh Arya 93, Cooper Connolly 87; Prince Yadav 2-25, M Siddharth 2-35) beat Lucknow Super Giants 200/5 in 20 overs (Rishabh Pant 43, Aiden Markram 42; Marco Jansen 2-37, Vijaykumar Vyshak 1-30) by 54 runs
