Sejadi Village Transformed Under PM Janman Yojana

A paved road reaches Baiga families living amid hills for the first time

Road carved through hills; weekly market now starts every Tuesday

Raipur, April 2026 : Sejadi village, located in the remote forest region of Kabirdham district, has undergone a remarkable transformation under the Prime Minister Janman Yojana. For generations, residents had been waiting for basic connectivity, and now, for the first time, a proper road has reached their village, significantly improving their quality of life.

Under the scheme, the PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) department constructed a 2.10-kilometer-long paved road connecting Sendurkhār to Sejadi. The project was completed at a cost of Rs 1 crore 56 lakh 88 thousand. The construction was particularly challenging due to the village’s location in a hilly terrain. Engineers had to cut through the hills to create a viable route, making the project both complex and labor-intensive.

Earlier, reaching Sejadi was a daunting task. The village, situated atop a hill and inhabited largely by families from the Baiga tribe—a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group—had no proper access roads. Residents depended on narrow, steep, and uneven pathways, making even walking difficult. Decades after independence, the village remained deprived of basic infrastructure and connectivity.

Everyday life was full of hardships. Transporting patients to hospitals, sending children to school, carrying household essentials, and taking agricultural produce to markets were all major challenges. With no motorable road, villagers had to rely entirely on manual labor, often carrying goods on their heads or shoulders over long distances.

Dhan Singh Dhurve, a resident of Sejadi, recalls the earlier struggles. He said that there was no road leading to the village, and people had to travel to markets in Pandariya and Kui for essential items such as ration, medicines, and farming supplies. Carrying these items back through hilly terrain was extremely difficult and time-consuming.

Now, with the construction of the new road, vehicles can easily reach the village. Essential goods are being delivered directly, saving both time and physical effort for the residents. The improved connectivity has not only eased daily life but also opened up new opportunities for economic activity.

One of the most significant changes is the beginning of a weekly market in the village, held every Tuesday. This has reduced the need for villagers to travel long distances for small necessities and has boosted local trade and interaction.

The residents of Sejadi have expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for bringing development to their village after years of neglect. They say the arrival of the road marks the beginning of a new chapter, bringing hope, convenience, and progress to their once-isolated community.
