Czech Currency Koruna Remained Strong Against Euro, But Stagnant Against Dollars.

Prague; April 2026: Today (23rd April 2026) Czech currency Koruna revived from yesterday’s (22nd April) losses against the Euro, strengthening by 13 cents to 24.35 CZK/EUR. Against the dollar, the Koruna ended almost unchanged, weakening by a cent to 20.79 CZK/USD. This follows from data on the Patria Online server. The Prague Stock Exchange weakened for the fourth day this week.

Perhaps the only positive note, and above all, valid results of negotiations regarding a ceasefire in the Middle East could divert the Czech currency from levels around 24.30 CZK/EUR, as per industry experts.

Central bankers still have a few days to comment before the Czech National Bank’s bank board meeting on the 07th May. Vice Governor Eva Zamrazilová and bank board member Jan Kubíček have already expressed their views that the CNB is in no hurry to change interest rates and does not need to make hasty decisions, the experts reiterated.

The PX stock exchange index fell by 0.42% to 2,630.52 points today. The entire financial sector ended in a negative trend. On the other hand, shares of the energy company ČEZ rose. Market activity was above average. This is according to data from the stock exchange website.

• Erste Bank shares fell by 1.26% to 2,437 crowns,
• Moneta Money Bank fell by 0.1% to 198 crowns,
• Komerční banka, which was the most traded stock, fell by 0.34% to 1,175 crowns. At today’s general meeting, Komerční banka shareholders approved the board of directors’ proposal to pay a dividend of 95.60 crowns per share from last year’s profit before tax, i.e., the entire net profit of the bank,
• CEZ shares rose 0.84% to 1,200 crowns.

Wood & Company broker Hoang Long Le pointed out that the reason was the company’s board of directors’ proposal to pay a dividend of 42 crowns per share, which corresponds to 80% of last year’s adjusted net profit. “Today, the management proposed, as a first step towards the company’s planned nationalization, the creation of a new subsidiary, into which energy sales and distribution, trading or energy services should be separated”, the broker added.

For example, the Colt CZ arms company, the VIG insurance company, the Philip Morris ČR tobacco company, and the Gevorkyan metallurgical company closed in a negative note, while – Shares of Pilsen-based engineering companies Doosan Škoda Power, the Kofola beverage company, and the Pilulka chain has gained marginally.
