White House Attacker Charged With Two Counts, Would Be Arraigned On Monday.
Washington DC; April 2026: U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said that the attacker (the defendant) has been charged with “Two Counts”, and would be arraigned on Monday (27th April 2026).
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump who has recuperated from the sudden felony has briefed the media about the happenings. Trump said, “nobody had told me that this is such a dangerous profession” – when asked whether he is concerned about the political violence. He further went on to reiterate that he doesn’t believe that this incidence has any connection with the Iran War based on information so far, but he added that his actions toward Tehran could have made him a target and that he would not be deterred.
“When you do things like that, you become a target. If I wasn’t doing that, I guess I’d be a lot less of a target, but I’m honored to be”, he told reporters at the White House. “It’s not going to deter me from winning the war in Iran. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, I really don’t think so based on what we know”.
Meanwhile, Washington interim police chief Jeffery Carroll told reporters the assailant apparently acted alone and was armed with a shotgun, handgun and multiple knives. He said the gunman’s motive was still unclear.
One of the country’s largest gun violence prevention organisation – the Safety Group has issued a statement calling news of the shooting incident “a heartbreaking reminder that no venue, no moment is safe from gun violence in America. In the statement, Everytown for Gun Safety quoted its president John Feinblatt saying: “Our nation’s President and national press corps ducking for cover, like far too many Americans do every day is absolutely unacceptable and we refuse to accept this as normal”. The group says it has nearly 11 million supporters and more than 700,000 donors.

The occasion which has become the centre stage of global news – The White House Correspondents Association Dinner has long served as a symbol of the uneasy but enduring relationship between the U.S. presidency and the press.
Founded in 1921, the annual black‑tie event brings together journalists, top government officials and civic figures. Sitting presidents have traditionally attended at least once during their terms, sometimes delivering good‑natured remarks at their own expense. Beyond the celebrity and satire, the dinner has historically been used to raise scholarship funds and spotlight press freedom.
Current President Donals Trump’s appearance at this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner marks his first time attending the event as US President. Earlier, he had boycotted the event at the Washington Hilton throughout his first term and again in 2025.
This year, his attendance follows years of open hostility toward major news organisations, including lawsuits, accusations of “fake news” and restrictions on press access during his administration. For supporters, Trump’s attendance signaled engagement with a press corps he often criticises. For detractors, it underscored enduring tensions between the president and journalists covering his administration.
