CM Patel Holds Meeting with Jamnagar Officials to Review Heavy Rainfall Situation

Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel visited Jamnagar district to assess the situation following significant flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Upon arrival, he held a meeting with district officials at the Airport Meeting Hall to review the ongoing relief efforts. District Collector Shri B.K. Pandya and Commissioner Shri D.N. Modi presented detailed reports on the situations arising from the excessive rainfall. The Chief Minister stressed the need for a permanent solution to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Jamnagar city. He instructed officials to prioritize public health and cleanliness and to repair and reopen any roads closed due to flooding as soon as the water recedes. Adopting a Zero Casualty approach, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of effective disaster management to ensure residents’ safety and address their needs promptly following the heavy rains.

In the meeting, it was reported that rescue operations in Jamnagar district involved one team each from the NDRF and SDRF, as well as one team from the Marine Task Force. Additionally, 3 Army units, along with the Fire Department and the Air Force, have been actively involved in rescue operations. A total of 12 people stranded in floodwaters were airlifted, and approximately 450 people were rescued across the district. More than 2,300 residents from low-lying areas in Jamnagar have been relocated to safer locations. Unfortunately, one person died after being swept away by floodwaters in Latipar village, Dhrol Taluka. A total of 68 houses have been damaged, and 104 out of the 433 affected feeders have been restored.

In the flood-affected areas, approximately 2 lakh food packets have been distributed to those in need. Essential equipment has been deployed in urban areas to begin cleanup operations promptly. The meeting also reported that 48 roads in Jamnagar district, managed by the Roads and Buildings Department, are currently closed and are expected to be restored once the floodwaters recede. During the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel instructed officials to survey the damage caused by the heavy rains in Jamnagar district. He discussed ongoing rescue operations, the condition of dams and roads, PGVCL, and the relocation of people from low-lying areas within the corporation limits. Cabinet Minister Shri Raghavji Patel briefed the Chief Minister on the situation in rural areas, while MLAs provided updates on rescue and relocation efforts in their constituencies and the distribution of food packets to those affected.

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including Cabinet Ministers Shri Raghavji Patel and Shri Mulubhai Bera, Chief Secretary Shri Raj Kumar, Member of Parliament Smt. Poonamben Madam, MLAs Shri Meghji Chavda, Shri Divyesh Akbari, and Smt. Rivaba Jadeja, Jamnagar District In-charge Secretary Shri Anupam Anand, District Panchayat President Smt. Meyben Garsar, Mayor Shri Vinod Khimsuriya, Deputy Mayor Smt. Krishna Sodha, District Development Officer Shri Vikalp Bharadwaj, District Police Chief Shri Premsukh Delu, and prominent leaders Shri Ramesh Mungra and Shri Vimal Kagathara, along with other officials.
