Naupang Huaisen Anthony Vanmawia (L) Honored With Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak Award, 2023
Aizawl, 30.08.2024: The Government of India has posthumously awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak 2023, a prestigious bravery award, to 11-year-old Anthony Vanmawia of Tuirial Tlangveng. He received this honor for saving his younger brother from drowning at the cost of his own life. The award was presented today to his family by the Aizawl District Commissioner Er. Lalhriatpuia at a ceremony held in the DC Office Conference Hall.
On April 17, 2023, while playing near their school, Anthony Vanmawia’s younger brother Lalhmunsiama fell into the Tuirial River at Pachuau Li and began to drown. Despite the danger, Anthony bravely jumped in and saved his brother, but tragically lost his own life in the process.

Aizawl District Commissioner praised Anthony Vanmawia’s courageous act as extraordinary and urged the community leaders to continue supporting his grieving family.
Among the various awards announced during this year’s Republic Day, three individuals, including Anthony Vanmawia, have been awarded the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak. Melody Lalremruati from Mizoram is also among the recipients. This award is given to those who selflessly risk their lives to save others.
The award includes a medal, a citation, and a cash prize of two lakh rupees, which is credited directly into the recipient’s bank account by the Home Department. Today, the award was received on behalf of Anthony by his grandfather, PC Ngursiamliana, and his grandmother, Lalrinpuii. The ceremony was led by Assistant Commissioner Pu Samuel Zodinsanga, with additional attendance by Addl. DC Pu Mark Lalthanliana, EO, BDO, DIPRO, and other DC Office staff. Representatives from Tlangnuam, DIPRO, Tuirial Tlangveng VC, YMA, CYMA, and MJA also attended the event.
