IDF Targets 120 Hezbollah Sites in Southern Lebanon, Escalation Continues
Jerusalem, May 2026 : The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday said it carried out large-scale airstrikes on around 120 targets linked to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, marking a significant escalation in military activity along the border.
According to the IDF, the strikes hit approximately 70 military-use structures and about 50 additional infrastructure sites associated with Hezbollah. These included headquarters, weapons storage facilities, and other operational bases used by the group. The military also claimed that several militants operating near Israeli forces were killed during the operation.
The Israeli Air Force reportedly destroyed a launcher that was loaded and prepared to fire rockets toward Israeli territory. The IDF stated that the strikes were part of efforts to neutralize immediate threats and protect both its forces and civilians.
Accusing Hezbollah of violating ceasefire understandings, the IDF said the group had continued to launch rockets and deploy explosive drones near areas where Israeli troops were stationed. On Saturday, the Air Force intercepted a rocket fired toward Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. It also intercepted two aerial targets before they could cross into Israeli territory.
In a separate development, the IDF highlighted ongoing security operations in the West Bank, also referred to by Israel as Judea and Samaria. Over the past week, joint operations involving the military, border police, and district police resulted in the arrest of more than 80 individuals wanted for various security-related offenses.
Among those detained were suspects accused of carrying out attacks on Israeli forces, as well as alleged supporters of Hamas. The IDF said it seized around 20 weapons, including improvised firearms, rifles, pistols, and ammunition.
Additionally, security forces confiscated equipment used for manufacturing weapons, including three lathes, along with seven drones and explosive devices that were reportedly ready for use. The detained individuals have been handed over to security agencies for further investigation, while the seized materials have been sent for further processing.
The developments highlight the ongoing tensions and instability in the region, with military operations continuing on multiple fronts.
