Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and CM Rekha Gupta Felicitate Outstanding Students Across Categories

New Delhi, May 2026 : Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta attended the 42nd Annual Day celebration of Delhi University’s Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce (SGGSCC) on Wednesday. The dignitaries were welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honour at the event. During the programme, the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister honoured students who excelled across various disciplines by presenting them with medals and degrees.

Students who made exceptional contributions in academics, sports and social activities were also recognised during the ceremony. Awards were presented in several categories, including Best Student of the Year, Best Sportsperson, Best NCC Cadet and Alumnus of the Year.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu praised the institution’s four-decade-long legacy and said the college continues to draw inspiration from the teachings of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji while instilling in students a spirit of nation-building and social responsibility. Referring to the rapidly evolving digital age, he urged students to remain curious, keep learning and adapt themselves to changing times. He said success in today’s world depends on the ability to continuously upgrade skills and evolve with fast-changing technology, the digital economy and growing global competition.

The Lt Governor said India was passing through a period of immense opportunity and that the country’s youth would play the most significant role in realising the vision of a developed India. He encouraged students not to limit themselves to personal success alone, but to actively contribute towards society, environmental responsibility, inclusivity and ethical leadership. Quoting the Gurbani line ‘Man Jeete Jag Jeet,’ he urged students to make self-discipline, clarity of purpose and determination the guiding principles of their lives.

Following the Annual Day celebration, the Lieutenant Governor also interacted with students and encouraged them to express their ideas openly. He said such interactions help build stronger understanding and serve as a source of inspiration for both young people and leadership alike. Appreciating the students enthusiasm, creativity and confidence, he said the country’s future depends on the innovation and positive thinking of its youth.

Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta congratulated the award-winning students and said the recognition reflected their hard work, discipline and unwavering commitment. She urged students to use their knowledge, skills and values in the service of nation-building and always prioritise their responsibilities towards society.

The Chief Minister said SGGSCC, through its rich legacy, strong academic traditions and value-based education, was nurturing leadership qualities and a spirit of public service among students. She described the institution not merely as a centre for education, but as a platform preparing young people for the future and contributing significantly to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

CM Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government was continuously working towards improving and modernising the education sector. She said the government remained committed to making students future-ready by connecting them with modern classrooms, digital technology, innovation and skill-based education. “The youth of the country are India’s greatest strength in the journey towards becoming a developed nation, and the Delhi Government is making continuous efforts to provide them with better opportunities,” she said. Delhi Cabinet Minister Shri Manjinder Singh Sirsa, senior university officials, educationists, parents and a large number of students were also present at the event.
