Mental and Physical Well-Being Important in the Age of Technology: Yoga Institute Director Hansaji Yogendra
Mumbai, May 2026 : Stressing the importance of maintaining both mental and physical health in today’s fast-paced technological era, Yoga Institute Director Hansaji Yogendra said that while the world is rapidly moving towards technology and innovation, equal attention must be given to personal well-being.
She was speaking during the session titled “Yogarang – Yoga for a Healthy Life” organised as part of “Tech-Wari 2.0 – Maharashtra Training Week” conducted by the General Administration Department at Mantralaya in Mumbai.
Hansaji Yogendra said that acquiring new skills and adapting to technological advancements is essential in modern times. However, she noted that true learning and growth are possible only when the mind remains calm, focused, and stable. She emphasised that merely listening to information is not enough; individuals must also develop the mental clarity and concentration needed to absorb and apply knowledge effectively.
She further stated that yoga should not be treated as a separate activity requiring additional time, but rather should become a natural part of everyday life. Encouraging people to take care of themselves even during busy work schedules, she said that while work is important, individuals should not neglect their own well-being in the process.
“Remain aware of yourself while working. Do not lose yourself in the pressure of professional responsibilities,” she advised.
Highlighting the impact of mental stress and negative thinking on physical health, Hansaji Yogendra observed that nearly 70 per cent of illnesses are linked to unhealthy lifestyles and mental imbalance. She underlined the importance of self-awareness and self-care, describing them as fundamental principles of yoga.
She also spoke about the importance of responding thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively during stressful or emotionally charged situations. Advising participants to pause briefly before responding, she said people should focus on their breathing and think calmly before making decisions.
“Pause for a few moments, focus on your breath, and then respond thoughtfully,” she said.
Hansaji Yogendra also encouraged people not to allow the words or actions of others to disturb their inner peace. She recommended cultivating a mindset of “letting go” and focusing on moving forward positively in life.
According to her, yoga is not merely a physical exercise but also a science connected to psychology and emotional balance. She said yoga helps individuals develop the right perspective and promotes a stress-free, balanced, and happier lifestyle.
Senior officials present during the session included Additional Chief Secretary (Services) V. Radha, Principal Secretary of the Housing Department Radhika Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department Manisha Verma, Assistant Director of the Yoga Institute Rishi Yogendra, along with deputy secretaries, section officers, and other staff members.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Deputy Secretary Leena Sankhe.
